Obituary for Johnette Robinson

Johnette Simmons Robinson, a native of Coffee County, Alabama and a resident of Mobile, Alabama departed this life on Sunday, January 7, 2018. Johnette was the daughter of the late Mr. Felix and Mrs. Victoria Simmons.

She graduated from Central High School, Mobile, AL, Class of 1953, and went on to attend Alabama State University where she received a Masters Degree in Education. After 33 years of service to the Mobile County School Board, she retired from Hillsdale School.

Johnette was an active bowler in with the Ebony Ladies League for many years. A member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, The Athenians Civic & Social Club, Incorporated, The Jordan Pride #775, Order of the Eastern Star, Prichard, Alabama and Queen Mother of The Red Hatters Society.

Johnette confessed her faith in Christ at an early age. As a faithful member of Stewart Memorial, she served various ministries including the Flower Arrangement Committee, Missionary Society and Golden Gems. She was formerly a member of Samuel Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, Prichard, Alabama for many years serving as a Trustee and a member of The Samuelites.

Johnette was united in holy matrimony to the late James Leon Robinson, Sr., She was predeceased by five siblings; Ruby Scarver, New York, NY, Leola Simmons, PhD, Dallas, TX, Carl Simmons, Dallas, TX, William Edward Simmons, Fort Walton, FL and Mary Doss, San Antonio, TX.

She leaves to cherish her memories eight siblings: Felix Horace Simmons (Mamie), Pensacola, FL, Louise Simmons, Detroit, MI, Barbara Williams (Lucky), Chickasaw, AL, Felix Simmons (Queen) Mobile, AL, Donald Simmons, Birmingham, AL, Rufustine Isaac (George), Prichard, AL, Carolyn Simmons, Dallas, TX and Cleo Simmons (Gwen), Dallas, TX; sister-in-law, Jean Simmons (William Edward), Fort Walton Beach, FL; host of nieces nephews other relatives and friends.

Her remains will lie in state from 4-7pm on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Small’s Mortuary, Mobile.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 9am until the 11am funeral hour at Stewart Memorial CME Church, 1266 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, Mobile, AL. Interment will follow in Lawn Haven Cemetery, Theodore, Alabama.
