Obituary for Robert Lee Jones

Robert Lee Jones was born August 1, 1932 to Lucas and Creola Jones in Walker Springs, Alabama. His parents were later divorced and he relocated to Mobile with his mother. He was reared by his mother and step-father Burrell Smith, Jr. Mr. Smith loved Robert as though he was his own child.

He attended Mobile County Training School. He served as a machinist at Brookley Air Force Base until it closed. He joined Teledyne and worked there until his retirement in 1995.

Robert gave his life to Christ at an early age under Reverend Louis Mitchell at Mount Gilliard Baptist Church. He enjoyed watching sports, westerns, and listening to music. He also enjoyed the company of his family and friends. He surrounded himself with photographs of generations of his relatives on his walls.

He was precede in death by his parents; two sons: Robert Darnell Jones and Stanley Jones; siblings.

Left to cherish his memories is a devoted daughter, Jacqueline (Jones) Walton of Montgomery, AL; two devoted sisters: Elizabeth J. Roberson of San Antonio, TX and Eleanor Bush of Mobile, AL; nieces: Mary Ealey (caregiver), Karroll Blye, and Lisa Roberson of TX, Delphine Smith and Deborah Smith of Atlanta, GA; nephews: Gregory Smith of Atlanta, GA, Charles, Percy Joe, Ernest Smith of Mobile, AL, Monroe and Alex Smith of Pensacola, FL, Victor Roberson of San Antonio, TX; cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Trayon Jones was by his side on a daily basis to help handle all of his daily needs for his care as well as the caregiver. Alone with Mary Ealey they worked together hand in hand to get things done. They were a great team! Also, part of the team was Clifton Easley who provided transportation whenever needed. Job well done!

His remains will lie in state on Friday, May 11, 2018 from 1- 8pm at Small’s Mortuary, Mobile.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 9am until the 11am funeral hour in Small’s Mortuary Chapel, Mobile, Alabama. Interment will follow in Lawn Haven Garden Of Prayer Cemetery, Theodore, Alabama.
