Obituary for Laura J. Simmons

Laura Jean Singer Simmons, a native of Greenville, Alabama and longtime resident of Mobile, AL, departed this life January 9, 2018 at the Mobile Infirmary Medical Center, Mobile, AL.

She was born to the late, Mr. & Mrs. Willie Ed (Lillie) Singer in Greenville, AL. She was preceded in death by her son, Sedrick Keith, three brothers, and a sister and two devoted nieces.

In her early life, she united with the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church of Greenville, AL. After moving to Mobile, AL, she united with First Hopewell Baptist Church under the leadership of the late, Rev. H. P. Williams, and served faithfully under Rev. John McCarty. She served in the choir as President and Secretary, Sunday School Teacher and on the Usher Board. She was a Charter Member and Secretary of the Mobile County Mass Choir. She was a Red Hatter and an Educator for over 30 years.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of fifty-three years, Ollie Simmons; a sister, Mary Johnson of Greenville, AL; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and close friends.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 11:30am until the 1:30pm funeral hour at First Hopewell Baptist Church, 654 Shelby Street, Prichard, AL. Interment will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery, Mobile, AL.
