Obituary for Addie Paulina Ely

Addie P. Austin Ely, was born August 27, 1920 in Choctaw County, Cromwell, Alabama to the parents of Agnes Austin and Tyler Walker, Raised by Aunt and Uncle Mattie and Enoch Washington of Womack Hill Alabama from the age of 5 until she became an adult. Addie confessed Christ at an early age and joined Springhill Baptist Church at Ararat Alabama. She moved to Mobile County, Prichard Alabama and united with Little Saint Louis Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend G. W. Lovett. She attended Ella Grant Elementary School and Mobile County Training School under the principaiship of Dr. B.F. Baker. Addie united in Holy Matrimony to Rev. Percy Lee Ely. Born to this union was ten children. Mrs. Addie Ely taught kindergarten for many years touching many children in the Prichard and Mobile surrounding areas. Many of her students continued to visit her until her death. Mrs. Ely enjoyed working with children, which was one of her many God gift talents. Mrs. Ely served as Counselor of the Red Circle Auxiliary, Primary Sunday School Teacher at Cedar Grove Baptist Church for many years, as well as the former First Lady of the Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Tyler Walker and Agnes Austin, Uncle and Aunt, Enoch and Mattie Washington, her devoted husband of 58 years, Rev. Percy Lee Ely Sr. 3 sons infants William and Wilbert Ely and Percy Lee Ely jr. granddaughter Jadine Ely. Four brothers, Eugene Graham, Thomas, Preacher Austin, and R.C. Chapman. Mrs. Addie Ely, leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Shirley Ely Marshall of Detroit Michigan and Annie R. Ely McCloud of St. Louis MO. Five sons, Carvin ( Minister Brenda) of Mobile Alabama, Calvin (Geraldine) El Paso Texas, Trenholm(Barbara) Dallas Texas, Marshall James Ely and John Kermit Ely of Prichard Alabama, four grandchildren raised as her own children, Paul L. Ely of Detroit Ml., Shandra Ely Woods of Montgomery Alabama, Percy Ely III of Prichard, Alabama and Kelly Ely of Montgomery Alabama, sister, Annie M. Edwards, step-sister, Daisy Walker Roberts, one brother, Samuel (SJ.) Austin, twenty grandchildren Jonathan, David, Marshalle, Wayua, Trenholm Jr. Kelton, Rashaad, Jerel, William Ely; LaTrena, Shirmarrick Marshall, Caressa (Benjamin) Prine, Aneitra Jones, Anthony and Vincent, McClound, Mary Lamothe, Jorina Collier, Treniecia Murphy, Scipio Clay, Dionne Jackson. Devoted counsins, Mattie (Rev. James Abner, Nedra Boykin, Juanita Nichols, Asa & Ellen, Gonzales & Beverley Washington. Twenty nine greatchildren. Devoted friends, Mrs. Ola M. Brown, Mrs. Joyce Rabb, Dea. & Mrs. Terry Tillman, Mrs. Terriceta Petite & Estella & Wilma Evans, Mrs. Ladora Summers and Mrs. Earlene Adams.
