Obituary for Mrs. Anita Louise Blackmon

Anita Louise Wiggins W. Blackmon was born August 1, 1956 to George and Geraldine
Woods Wiggins in Clairton, Pennsylvania. She departed this earthly life Tuesday, June 6,
2023.
She attended Clairton High School where she was an outstanding scholar and cheerleader,
graduating Class of 1974. She had her first child, Ahmed Wiggins in 1974. Anita’s second
child, Kierre Williams was born in 1979. She transitioned to Mobile, Alabama in 1984.
Anita’s wish of barring a daughter came true in 1985, Leah Williams (Stallworth). In
Mobile, she worked for a non-profit agency, Little Sisters of the Poor where she worked
tirelessly assisting elderly patients. In 1988, she attended Bishop State Community college
where she studied Mortuary Science. Shortly after, she entered an apprenticeship program
at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home where she met her soon to be life partner and future
husband, Ronnie Blackmon.
Anita worked in various roles for numerous organizations in the Mobile area including
working as a Unit Secretary in the Intensive Care Unit at Springhill Medical and as a
Librarian at Prichard Library. After graduating from Bishop State Community College with
an Associates of Arts Degree, Anita sought to further her education. She enrolled in South
Alabama University majoring in Sociology. Consequently, her education was cut short due
to an illness that hindered her from progressing in the program. Anita never let her sickness
prevent her from doing anything she set her mind to do.
In addition to working outside of the home, education and discipline was very important to
her. Anita always worked to nurture and educate her children, grandchildren and great-
grandchildren. She was very creative in doing so. She used unorthodox methods such as
teaching her children how to spell respect using Aretha Franklin’s hit song, Respect.
In due season, her life-long passion and spiritual gift made room for her where she served as
a Missionary for 19 years under the Presidency of Mary R. Walker. Her dedication and
commitment ultimately led her into becoming her local Church Missionary President and the
State First Vice President.
