Annie Ruth Winston
Sunset August 3, 1948 – Sunrise March 20, 2021

Annie Ruth Winston was a native of Monroeville, AL, and a lifelong resident of Grand Bay,
AL passed away peacefully on March 20, 2021, at Mobile Infirmary Hospital, Mobile, AL at
the age of 72 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Monroeville, Alabama on
August 3, 1948.
Annie Ruth was a devoted and active member of True Word Church Ministry, Prichard, AL.
She was raised in the Church of God of Pentecost, Monroeville, AL, where she was baptized
and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age.
Family and friends were Annie Ruth’s passion and delight. She was a loving, caring, and
devoted mother, daughter, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt,
and friend who was always there to help and support her family and friends in any way
possible. She was the second oldest child out of ten. She had an extraordinarily strong
presence, and she was highly respected, outspoken, and firm. Annie Ruth never met a
stranger, and she always shared words of encouragement, love, and laughter.
 
Annie Ruth was an entrepreneur, during her professional career she was a floral designer,
antique collector, and music artist. God gifted her with many talents and skills. She enjoyed
attending musical concerts and festivals, vacationing, and spending time with family and
friends. She loved sewing and designing clothes, cooking, and creating new recipes. Annie
Ruth was very stylish, and she had hats for every occasion. She was fascinated with any kind
of flower, especially exotic plants; she could grow anything. She loved landscaping and
gardening and would spend hours working in her yard. Being outside and enjoying nature
and attending church service was part of her weekly routine until her health failed.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband Anderson Jeff Winston; mother and father Emily
and Jimmie Davis, Sr.; Son-in-law/Son Cecil J. Moore; five brothers James Tolbert, Ray
Davis, Raymond Davis, Eddie Davis, and Jimmy Davis, Jr.; and one sister Nora Davis.
She leaves to cherish her memories two loving and devoted daughters Jefferson Marie
Moore and Crystal Lanee Winston of Grand Bay, AL; one son Raymond Peyton of Mobile,
AL; five grandchildren Yuntalaa Ladonna Davis, Stephanie Moore, Cecil and Brittany Davis
all of Grand Bay, AL and Christopher Garner of Pensacola, FL; two very special great
grandchildren Micah Davis and Braelyn Davis both of Grand Bay, AL; two sisters Carilean
Washington (Ozell) of Grand Bay, AL and Emma Davis Peyton of Mobile, AL; one brother
Ralph Davis of Mobile, AL; two aunts Delores Tolbert of St. Elmo, AL and Ella Tolbert of
Irvington, AL; two brothers-in-law Elma Winston and Abraham Winston both of St. Elmo,

AL; three sisters-in-law: Maxine Cleveland, Martha Williams, and Bernice Winston all of St.
Elmo, AL; two special cousins Lillie Parker of St. Elmo, AL and Bernice Smarte of Lake
Wales, FL; four special friends: Willie Parker, Susie Jackson, Rachel Tuner all of Mobile, AL
and Walter Moorer of Bay Minette, AL; a host of nieces and nephews, and other relatives
and friends
The memorial service will be held at the Lighthouse Apostolic Church, 9901 Tom Waller Rd., Grand Bay, Al 36541 at 12:00 noon on April 3rd. The visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to
12:00 noon. Pastor Earl L. Harris, Officiating. Interment will follow at the Pine Hill
Cemetery, Grand Bay, AL.  Services are entrusted to Smalls Mortuary, 950 Broad St.,
Mobile, AL, 36603.
