Obituary for Barbara Brown

Barbara Ann Jones Brown was born to the union of Malachi and Victoria Jones on April
19, 1942 in Mobile, Alabama. From her youth, Barbara attended church and accepted
Christ as her Lord and Savior.  She was a faithful member of Mr. Gilead Baptist Church
until she returned to heaven
April 15, 2021.
Barbara attended and graduated from Caldwell, Dunbar, and Central public schools in
Mobile, Alabama. Being industrious, Barbara tried her hand at many different jobs
including waitressing, housekeeping, and home healthcare. It wasn’t until she was hired
at the University of South Alabama Hospital that her career would take a different
path. Something about caring for people captured Barbara’s attention. She began to excel
and took advantage of the many opportunities afforded her.  Barbara’s hard work and
dedication was recognized and paid off; she loyally served as a ward clerk 42 years
before approaching retirement.
Barbara was family oriented and was the proud mother who leaves to cherish in her
memory two sons: Edward (BeNita) Jones of and Mobile, AL and Command Master
Chief Retired USN Michael (Sheila) Jones of Pensacola, FL.
Barbara was a caring sister often sharing special moments and close family ties with each
of her siblings.  Her father and mother: Malachi and Victoria Jones; one sister: Juanita
Jones of Mobile, AL and three brothers: Ike Jones – Detroit, MI; James Jones – Detroit,
MI; and Franklin Delano Jones – Detroit, MI all preceded her in death.  Barbara has three
living siblings remaining:  Genevieve Green-Detroit, MI, Ann Harris-Philadelphia, PA,
and Thomas Jones-Philadelphia, PA.
Barbara was also the proud grandmother of five grandchildren: Victoria (Duncan) Weir
of Dunoon, Scotland, Quintavia (Kendrick) Wooten of Mobile, AL, Melanie Jones of
Hampton, VA, Kierra Jones of Mobile, AL, and Dwight (Amanda) Moffitt of Norfolk,
