Obituary for Barbara Jackson (Howard)
Sister Barbara Gene Howard Jackson was born on February 10, 1952 to the late Deacon Charles Wilmer Howard and Sister Catherine Moore Howard of Tensaw, Alabama. They both instilled in her a love of God, a giving heart and a hard work ethic. Sister Jackson loved to give and show love to others even when she herself needed to rest. It was her superpower.
Sister Jackson received her formal education through the Baldwin County School System and was a member of the National Honor Society and went on to get her Bachelor’s degree in Education and Political Science from Alabama State University in Montgomery. She received her Masters in Secondary Education from Troy State University and received her Certification in Administration and Supervision from Alabama State University. She served as an educator with Bay Minette Middle School and an administrator with Baldwin County High School for 29 years in total and she retired there with 30 years of service because of her accumulation of over a year of vacation and sick days. She went on to become an educator at East Central High School in Hurley, Mississippi for 10 years, retiring in 2013. She received awards for Who’s Who of American Teachers in 1991 and 1996.
Sister Jackson confessed Christ at an early age and united with First Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully until she got ill. Although she was not able to attend service at the church, she attended services in Houston, TX at St. John’s Downtown with her daughter and continued to serve the Lord through songs and prayer.
Sister Jackson served faithfully in various offices and capacities at First Missionary Baptist Church. Most notably, she held the office of Financial Secretary for over 40 years. She also served as the President of the Deacconness Board, Director of the Youth Department, Assistant Superintendent of the Sunday School, a member of the Usher Board and a member of the Senior Choir. Sister Jackson was a servant of the Lord who willingly gave of her time and skills to help her church. Sister Jackson was a FAITHFUL SERVANT of the Lord.
Sister Jackson was united in Holy Matrimony with Deacon J. Malcolm Jackson on June 8, 1974. The couple celebrated 45 years of marriage earlier this summer. They were parents to two children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Deacon Charles Wilmer Howard and Catherine Moore Howard, her oldest brother, Henry Roosevelt Howard and her father-in-law, Henry Japheth Jackson.

Malcolm Jackson, two devoted children, Traci Jackson, Houston, TX and Kevin Jackson, Durham, NC; two devoted siblings, Robert (Joane) Howard, Thomasville, AL and Carolyn Hooks, Tensaw, AL; a devoted mother-in-law, Gussie Jackson, Ozark, AL three devoted sisters-in-law, Sallye Howard, Thomasville, AL, Janice Jackson, Montgomery, AL and Arinzie Steele, Huntsville, AL; three devoted brothers-in-law, Leray Jackson, Ozark, AL, Henry (Gloria) Jackson, Hillsboro, AL, and Herman (Alice) Jackson, Ozark, AL; nephews Christopher (Angela) Howard, Thomasville, AL, Timothy Hooks, Bay Minette, AL; Henry (Deatrice) Howard, Huntsville, AL, Courtney Howard, Minneapolis, MN and a niece Lanaye Howard Stokes, Montgomery, AL and a host of additional nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
