Obituary for Bernadette Jones Safford
Bernadette Jones Safford departed her earthly home on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at the age of 74. She was a 1966 graduate of Mobile County Training School. Bernadette was a Master Cosmetologist with over 50 years of experience. She spent 30 of those years, at Gayfers and was recognized as one of the first African American stylists.
Bernadette was born July 2, 1948 to the union of the late Willie Lee and Aline Lola Sylvester Jones.
She is preceded in death by both parents; a loving husband, Keith A. Safford; and one sister, Sonja Jones. She is survived by and leaves to cherish her memories: Fiancé, James A. Safford, Jr.; six sisters, Rochelle Blakely, Maxine (Marcus) Spraggins, Sr., Marva (Jasper) Gilchrist, Marian “Tweedy” Jones, Peggy (Herman) Burrell, Sr. and April (Robert) Floyd; two brothers, Ronald (Angela) Jones and Terry (Zelma) Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and friends.
