Obituary for Betty C. Walker
Betty Jean Clemon Walker a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, Al, exchanged time for eternity at her residence on Saturday July 11, 2020, surrounded by her love ones. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dave & Rosetta Clemon; sisters, Carolyn Johnson, Rose McCaskill, and Pamela Pugh; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in law.
Betty was a 1962 graduate of Lillie B. Williamson High School. After high school, Betty attended the Mobile Branch of Alabama State College (University). Upon completion, she matriculated to Alabama State College (University), Montgomery Alabama, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education. Furthering her education, she earned a Master’s Degree of Education from the University of South Alabama in 1977. Betty’s career as an Educator began with the Brewton City School District in Escambia County, Alabama, and spanned over 32 years; ending with Mobile County Public School System. During her years in the classroom, she shared her knowledge and love for English/Language Arts with students at Brewton Middle School, Prichard Middle School, Palmer Pillans Middle School, and Dunbar Magnet School. Her love for teaching earned her many awards and accolades including Teacher of the Year and Outstanding Reading Teacher by the Metro Mobile Reading Council.
Betty was a faithful member of Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church and served faithfully until illness prevented her attendance. Her church involvement included Director Emeritus of the Corinthian Church Nursery, Mission Circle, and Corinthian Choir. Prior to uniting with Corinthian, Betty worshipped faithfully at Revelation Missionary Baptist Church under the administration of the late Reverend Dr. Leon Taylor Sr. and Revered David L. Frazier, Sr.
Betty left to cherish precious memories of a loving family that includes her husband of 56 years Andy Walker; three children Anthony (Carla) Walker, Aurora, CO; Brian Walker, and Jayson Walker, of Mobile, AL; Devoted nephew Coleman Johnson; siblings Valerie Michelle Clemon, Dave (Sammie) Clemon, Jr. of Mobile; three loving aunts: Mary (Andrew) Patterson, Chicago, IL, Dorothy Flynn, Brockton MA, Sarah (Benjamin) Cain, Rocksbury, MA; uncles, Vernon (Ethel) York, Denver, CO and George York of Mobile, AL; grandchildren: Mario Thomas, Anthony (Deja) Walker Jr., Brian Walker, Mylasia “Joy” Walker, all of Mobile, AL; 22 nieces and nephews: Phillip (Leeanna) Clemon , Karen Clemon, John (Alison)Walker, Tracie Tate, Mary Alice Peyton, Percy Walker Jr., Elbert Walker, Patrick Walker, Ida Lucille Walker, Kawanda, Adrian, and Thaddeus (Sonya) Pugh, all of Mobile, AL, Darren (Stephanie) Walker, Killeen, TX, Cleon Marcus Walker, Slidell, LA, Lee(Cindy) Tate, Salisbury, MD, Kimberly (Peter) Dixon, Atlanta GA, Antionette (Lyndell) Sutton, Jacksonville, SC, Katrina Johnson, Robert Thibideaux, Houston, TX, Kevin Clemon, Autan, AK, Jacinta Clemon, Jacksonville, South Carolina; many devoted great grandchildren, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, and great-great nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
