Obituary for Catherine Witherspoon Perine

Catherine Witherspoon Perine (Cathy) was a native of Mobile, Alabama, born on
May 19, 1948 to the union of Dan Witherspoon Sr. and Catherine Pompey
Witherspoon. After a 10 year battle with Breast Cancer she departed this life on
May 19, 2021 at 1:49 a.m. at the University of South Alabama Hospital.
Catherine was a member of Stewart Memorial Christian Methodist Episcopal
Church where she was a member of the Stewart Memorial Messengers. Catherine
was an active member of the E.C. Robinson Sunday School Class and Bible Study.
Catherine accepted Christ into her life at an early age at St. Peter Missionary
Baptist Church where she served in many capacities from choir president to
Trustee. Catherine was a 1966 graduate of Lillie B. Williamson High School. She
attained a Bachelors Degree from Knoxville College and her Master’s Degree from
the University of South Alabama. Catherine was a Golden Soror and Life Member
of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. A member of Marie V Dixon #875
Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. Catherine worked for 35 years at Bishop
State Community College as a Counselor.
Catherine was a committed and dedicated Daughter, Sister Mother, Grandmother
and God Mother and Mother figure to many. Catherine was preceded in death by
her parents, Dan Witherspoon and Catherine Pompey Witherspoon, three brothers,
McKinley Dan Witherspoon, Dan Witherspoon II and Ronald Edward
Witherspoon. A sister Mary Lenora Witherspoon, and one niece Miriam
Witherspoon.
She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted sister Bernadette Witherspoon
Johnson of Mobile, Alabama , her children Casey LaTrice Perine, Wesley Danord
Perine (Naomig) of Dallas, Texas , Una F. Williamson (Derrick) John W. Perine
Jr. of Mobile, AL. Three grandchildren Peyton Denise Newberry of Mobile, AL
Ariel Cassidy Perine of Dallas, TX and Kinard John Henson of Birmingham, AL
Two God Children Raquel Jones and Amore Johnson and a host of nieces and
nephews cousins a devoted friend Patricia Frazier and other relatives who she
loved dearly.
