Obituary for Charles Buskey Jr.

Charles Buskey Jr., a native of Mobile, AL, born on June 6, 1935 in Greenville, AL, departed this life on April 24, 2021. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Gertrude Roberstson Buskey; parents, Rev. and Mrs. Charles Buskey, Sr.; brother, State Representative John Buskey and sister, Shirley B. Green.
Charles was reared in Aimwell Baptist Church. After marriage, he became a lifelong member of the historic Saint Louis Street Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the Trustee Board and taught the A.B. Davis Bible Class.
He was a 1953 Honor Graduate of Central High School. Charles graduated from Alabama State University In 1956 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education. He earned the Master of Education Degree from Tuskegee University in 1965.
Charles was a life member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and an active member of the Rho Alpha Chapter in Mobile, Alabama. He served as Vice-Basileus and Keeper of Finance, and received the 50 Year Service plaque in 2014.
Starting his career at Central High School and ending at Murphy High School, Charles retired in 1994 after 37 years of service in the Mobile County Public School System. He was a member of the Mobile Education Association and served as a member of the Executive Board, Vice-President in 1983-1984 and President in 1985-1986. He was a life member of the National Education Association, Alabama Education Retirees Association and the Mobile Retired Teachers Association.
Charles is survived by his daughter, Karen B. Williams (Mobile, AL); son, Attorney Charles (Zitta) D. Buskey (Washington, DC); grandsons, Steven (Clara) Williams and Kendall Williams (Houston, TX); brothers, State Representative James (Virgia) Buskey and Martin Buskey; sisters, Joyce B. Royal and Wanda B. King (Mobile, AL); two great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11am Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Small's Mortuary, 950 South Broad Street, Mobile, AL 36603. Mr. Buskey will be laid to rest in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens, Theodore, AL. WWW.SMALLSMORTUARY.COM
