Obituary for Cornelius Edwards Jr.

Cornelius Edwards, Jr.
July 11, 1961 - March 17, 2024
Affectionately known as “Cornbread”
The Angel of God said, “Cornelius “Cornbread”, come now
and take your rest with Our Heavenly Father, for absent
from the body is present with the Lord.”

Cornelius Edwards, Jr., a native of Mobile, Alabama was born Tuesday,
July 11, 1961 to the union of Cornelius Edwards, Sr. and Barbara Edwards in
Augusta, GA. He departed this earthly life on Sunday, March 17, 2024 at
8:47 PM at SAAD Hospice.
Because our Heavenly Father loved us first, Cornelius “Cornbread” loved
and had faith in God. In the 70’s Cornelius alone with his first cousin,
Stephen Hicdricks heard the door knock of the Lord. (Behold, I stand at the
door and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in
to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. Rev. 3:20). After hearing the
voice of our Lord and Savior Jesus, they both were baptized at Stone Street
Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Charles Tunstall.
From a very young age, Cornelius loved participating in sports activities.
Starting with “The Mobile Eggs” the first little league baseball team he
played on. Taking him through high school varsity football, basketball, track
and field. He also found time to DJ parties.
Cornelius attended W.P. Davidson High School and was a proud member of
the Class of 1979. He furthered his education, he attended Texas A&M
University for a short time and later transferred to Troy University of Troy,
AL. There he pledged with “Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.” In doing so,
Cornelius “Cornbread” put his heart into it. For he was a team player, like in
all the different sports he participated in. With that experience, he applied to
his duties and responsibilities with “Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.”
God blessed Cornelius “Cornbread” with a character, a personality and a
spirit that got-along-well with others. Seeing the good and potential in
others.
He was preceded in death by his loving and caring father, Cornelius Edwards,
Sr. whom is greatly loved and deeply missed.
Cornelius leaves to cherish his memories, a caring, loving and supportive
family: a loving and devoted mother, Barbara Edwards; a loving sister,
Zenobia Grose; a loving uncle, Raymond Edwards; a loving aunt, Jackie
Edwards; and a host of loving and caring cousins, other relatives and friends.
