Obituary for DeEster G. Walker (Gaillard)

Walker- DeEster Gaillard Walker, better known as “Dee” of Mobile, Alabama was
born April 12, 1935, in Chickasaw, Alabama, shed her mortal frame for eternal
rest on April 7 , 2021. Now wearing a diamond tiara, DeEster has joined her
parents in heaven, Will Penn and Tempie Newton Gaillard.
DeEster was a lifelong and faithful member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.
She enjoyed singing in the choir. Church members often requested her solo
version of “The Blood,” by Andre Crouch. As a child, she begin playing the piano
and later the organ. She respectfully served as a Missionary and Matron. With a
strong love for church and children, she dutifully taught bible school for 24 years.
In 1951, she was a graduate of Mobile County Training School at the age of 16.
Entering Alabama College (Bishop State Junior College), Mobile, Alabama, she
furthered her education at Alabama State, Montgomery, Alabama and Alabama
Agriculture and Mechanical University (A&M), Normal, Alabama. She later
enrolled in dietary school at Providence Hospital. After a sixteen week program,
she started her career as a supervisor for 28 years until retirement.
While at A & M, Johnnie Walker saw Dee and fell in love with her beauty. The
two were married and to this union a son was born, Michael Anthony Walker.
They also had two other sons, Kenneth Harvey and Maurice Gaillard of Chickasaw
Terrace in Prichard, Alabama. An avid reader, DeEster enjoyed reading novels.
Her gorgeous clothes, shoes, and hats demonstrated her love for shopping.
Her sons, Michael Walker and Kenneth Gaillard; brothers, Roscoe and Willie Oscar
Gaillard, and sisters; Arvetta Singleton, and Garland Johnson, preceded her in
meeting their Creator. Leaving to cherish her precious memories are her loving
and very devoted son, Maurice Gaillard (Carla), Radcliff, Kentucky; a very devoted
daughter in-law, Lauretta Gaillard, Mobile, Alabama; two granddaughters; Latoya
Huff, Frankfort, Kentucky and Kayla Henderson, Mobile, Alabama. A devoted
grandson, Kendrick (Stephanie) Gaillard, Mobile, Alabama; devoted
granddaughter and caregiver, Lakesha (Derrick) Myers, Chickasaw, Alabama; ten
great grandchildren and one great- great-grandchild. Devoted nephew, Wilbert
(Melanie) Johnson Jr., and three devoted nieces; Jolie Gaillard (Alonzo) Johnson,
Connley, Georgia; Andrea Gaillard (Frank) Turner; Saraland, Alabama, and
Carmen Johnson Brooks, Mobile, Alabama. DeEster considered one of her very
loyal nieces who was like a daughter, Alfreda Morrisette to live and take care of
her until her demise. A myriad of nieces and nephews. Lifelong friends to the
end, Irene Henry, Mobile, Alabama; Mary Foster, Prichard, Alabama; Marva Ladd,
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Carrie McMillian, Prichard, Alabama. A devoted
church member Dorothy Smith of Prichard, Alabama. God showed favor blessing
DeEster with angels, Jimmie and Erma Woods who relocated from Huntsville,
Alabama to Prichard, Alabama.
