Obituary for Diane Logan Jenkins (Logan)

Mrs. Diane Jenkins was born to the late Charlotte Sewer Logan and Clarence Wells, in
Grand Bay, AL on September 10, 1948. Diane attended Dixon Elementary School and
graduated from St. Elmo High School in 1966. She attended Bishop State Community
College in September 1966.
 
In 1970, she moved to Los Angeles, California and a year later in 1971 she met the love of
her life Charles Nathaniel Jenkins. In 1972, she married him on his birthday, May 27 th . One
year later, in 1973, they were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Melanie Dionne Jenkins.
While she was married, she attended Pepperdine University and graduated on August 2, 1974
with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology.
 
She started her career with Los Angeles County in 1977. She worked for 29 years and retired
with Department of Children and Family Services in 2006. She was celebrated by family and
co-workers. She had a great passion for helping children. As a social worker, she devoted
and volunteered many hours assisting and mentoring children in need. Over the years, she
met many people who always referred to her as “Sunshine”. Her personality was infectious
to everyone that she met. Most of her friends became more like family.
 
She accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church in Grand Bay,
AL. After moving to Los Angeles, she became a devoted member of First New Christian
Missionary Baptist Church for over 30 years where she served as an Usher, Sunday School
Teacher, Young Adult Choir member, Tithing Secretary, and Ambassadors for Christ Young
Adult Mission Group Member.
 
After retirement, she relocated to Georgia and joined Grace Community Christian Church
where she was a Greeter, served on the Women’s Ministry and was an active participant in
the body of Christ. Lastly, she relocated to Kissimmee, Florida in September 2015 and joined
Poinciana Christian Church. She devoted much of her time reading her Bible, completing
crossword puzzles, and traveling. She traveled on several domestic and international
European cruises including Istanbul, Greece, Paris, Caribbean cruises, Smooth Jazz cruises,
and many others. Not only did she love traveling, but she also enjoyed and loved cooking

and taking care of her family, especially her grandson, Robbie. She was known for making
homemade candy (a.k.a. Praline), which she learned from her late big sister, Clarita. Many of
you know her as “Lady D”; some of you know her as “Sunshine” and her daughter refers to
her as “Mickey” for Mickey Mouse.
 
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Charles Nathaniel Jenkins; her loving
mother, Charlotte Sewer Logan; and her generous sister, Clarita Logan.
 
Lady D leaves to cherish with fond memories; her devoted family: daughter, Melanie
Matthews; son-in-law (more like a son), Robert Matthews; and grandson, Robert
Matthews, Jr. (aka Robbie); siblings: Voncile Logan Jackson (Richard), Norma Faye Glass
of Mobile, AL, Jennifer Deneen Hayes (Joseph) of Grand Bay, AL, Anthony Eric Davidson
(Christine) of Theodore, AL, and adopted sister, Mae Shelton (Clarence); Godchildren:
Shanti Glass, Braylan Logan, Britney Hayes-Stabler and Kameron Smith; devoted friends:
Rebecca (Pat) Brooks, Linda Thomas and Faye Mitchell; eleven nieces and nephews and
twenty-one great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
