Obituary for Diann Henley Anderson Greer

Diann Henley Anderson Greer, age 57, was born in Mobile, Alabama to parents Edwin and Dethelder Henley. She was the baby girl of their four daughters. She absolutely loved being “the baby” of the family and reminded them often. Her siblings said their final goodbyes on Sunday, October 30, 2022. She transitioned peacefully and is now in the arms of her loving father, our Lord, and Savior Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dethelder Henley Lang; step-father, Reaf Lang; grandmother, Annie Mae Ingram; and aunts, Mary Moody and Eliza Spencer.

Diann attended Most Pure Heart of Mary and C. F. Vigor High School. She was also a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church where she sang in the youth choir. She was also an entrepreneur. She was a skilled make-up artist and opened her make-up studio, D’NANI, in Huntsville, Alabama. She had countless clients over the years and she loved being a part of her clients’ special days or events, enhancing the natural beauty of the young and the seasoned.

Diann was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated ® and was initiated into the Gamma Mu chapter on March 6, 1985, on the campus of Alabama A&M University. She later became a member of the Epsilon Gamma Omega Chapter. She followed her mother’s footsteps by becoming an active member of R.E. Nelms Temple #1127, Daughters of Elks (I.B.P.O.E.W.), where she served as Vice Daughter Ruler. She was also a member of James E. Kelley #79 of Past Daughter Ruler. Sister Diann Greer was a member of Hendley Chapter #855, Order of Eastern Star (PHA) where she served in the second Starpoint position of Ruth. Sister Diann Greer was a member of Al Azhar Court #181, Daughter of the Imperial Court, (A.E.A.O.N.M.S) where she served as the Assistant Marshal.

Professionally, Diann worked many years in higher education, beginning with the University of Alabama – Huntsville (UAH) for 12 years, most of which served as Coordinator in the Office of Multicultural Affairs, under the direction of Dr. Lee Williams. During her last two years at UAH, she became the Assistant Director. She also served as the Black Student Association (BSA) Advisor and was a recipient of the UAH Foundation Staff Excellence Award. She then started working at Alabama A&M University as an Academic Advisor Coordinator in the College of Agricultural, Life and Natural Sciences and First Year Experience Instructor. She later became the Director of the Office of Student Activities and Leadership Development.

She earned a B. A. degree in Telecommunications and an M. S. Degree in Personnel Administration from Alabama A&M University.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her father, Edwin S. Henley (Mobile); siblings, Loretta Jones (Frederick), Dr. Sandra Henley Dunn (Billie), Dr. Kathy Thompson, Dr. Pamela Thompson, Dr. Telly Russell, MD, Raphael Tilly (Waikikita); nieces, The Honorable Judge Shanta Owen (Rahman), The Honorable Judge Shera Grant (Daryl), Kirsten Carter (Ryan), Alice Henley Bryant-Hansen (Duncan), Michele Thompson, Nicole Thompson, Natalie Thompson, Maya Russell, Ava Russell, Madelyn Grant, Berkeley Owens, Brielle Williams, and Raymiel Tilley; nephews; Demarcus Williams, Travis Williams, Brandon (Lakendria), Justin Thompson (Rebekkah), Bradley Williams, Braxson Williams, August Owens and Grey Grant; cousins, Sherrie Moody McCormick (Napoleon), Roshay Spencer, Detrice Spencer Turner (Jeffrey), Chelsea Stutzman (Chris), Mark McCormick; and a host of other cousins, relatives, and friends from all over the country.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Prichard AL with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will be at the Whispering Pine Cemetery. Visit www.smallsmortuary.com to view the funeral service live.
