Obituary for Dorothy Mae Carstarphen (Brown)

Dorothy Mae Carstarphen, age 87, a lifetime resident of Mobile, Alabama, was born in Gainesville, Alabama.
She transitioned to eternal life on Sunday morning November 6, 2022.

Dorothy united with St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church and was a faithful member for over sixty-two years until her heath decline. She participated and served in the following ministries: Gospel Chorus, Senior Mission, Sunday School Teacher and a Deaconess. The things she enjoyed included: Church’s Chicken, Coca Colas and watching The Young and the Restless. Dorothy was a reader and an avid follower of Through the Bible with the late Dr. J. Vernon McGhee. In her spare time, she baked cakes with her daughters and sat on her front porch watching the school children walk by. She was a baby-sitter/caregiver and her favorite perfume was Nina Ricci.

She was preceded in death by her father, M.C. Harper; mother, Lydia Harper; brothers, William (Margaret) Brown and Theodore (Patricia) Brown; sons, Jerry, Morris and Anthony Chaney; great-grandson, Crishun Chaney; god-daughter, Nancy Nicole Ervin-Causey.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories, her devoted husband, Clinton Carstarphen, Sr. Loving children, Faye Christian, Beverly (James) Donald, Tracy (Wesley) Sanderson, Felisha Fleeton all of Mobile, Alabama; Venessa (Kelvin) Cunningham, Talladega, Alabama and Clinton (Judith) Carstarphen, Jr., Mobile, Alabama. Daughter-in-law, Rosie Chaney, Richmond, California. Sisters-in-law, Deloris Williams, Cincinnati, Ohio; Regina B. Rich, Macon, Georgia; Lillie Carstarphen, McComb, Mississippi; Phyllis V. Dumas, Maple Heights, Ohio; Dannie Seigler, Twinsburg, Ohio; Earline Sigler, Mobile, Alabama. Brothers-in-law, Charlie (Gloria) Sigler, Coy, Alabama; George Baldwin, Magnolia, Mississippi. Several god-children; Fourteen grandchildren, Sharita, Kerrick (Roxanne), Talisha, Eboni (Tristan), Antwan, Anthony II (Kelly), Lydia, Orlando, Toysayna, Brittney, LaCalvin, Kelvin II (Tanita), Carrington and Lee-Lee. Nineteen great-grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
