DOROTHY ROGERS JONES (MAMA “D”)
A native of Irvington, AL, she was born January 6, 1941 to the union of the late Will and Rosie Rogers. She entered into eternal rest on April 7, 2021. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Leslie Jones; two loving sons; Reginald and Terrell Jones, brothers; Will Rogers, Jr., Sherman E. Rogers, Johnnie L. Rogers, Sr., and one sister; Gladys M. Rogers.
Mama “D” united with the Freewater Missionary Baptist Church at an early age, she was a Ray of Sunshine to the community; a Mother to all, and faithful to her church. While serving in numerous ministries to include; the Mission Department, Intercessory Prayer Ministry, Deaconess Ministry, Music Ministry, Pastor’s Aid Ministry and the Sunday School. Mama “D” had a passion for singing which span across the Gulf Coast and other states which she was called to minister through music.
She leaves to cherish her memories; two devoted daughters; Phyllis (Tony) Robbins, and Ivy L. Jones of Irvington, Al, a devoted sister, Vivian (John) Hunter of Niceville, Fl, two devoted granddaughters; Tershikeya Jones of Theodore, Al, and Acquanita Robbins of Mobile, Al, four great grandchildren; Nijal, Connor, Brayden, and Adrinyana. Two Goddaughters; Nikki Woodard and Blair Davis, three Godsons; George
Tolbert, Jr., Kirkland Rogers, and Omar Johnson. Three sisters-in-law; Alfreda Williams of Theodore, Al, Ruth (Kenneth) Hobbs, of Boston, MA, and Betty Coleman of Irvington, Al. four brothers-in-law; Wilbert, Jerry,
Barry (Cheryl) McCall all of Theodore, Al, and Theodore Williams of Irvington, Al. “The Golden Girls” Alfreda Williams, Ida Mae Coleman, Josephine Bolar, Mamie H. Johnson and Margert Holloman, and a host of devoted
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
