Dorothy “Jean” McCants Knowles passed with peace and grace on Sunday,August 26, 2018, with her family at
her side.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Francis York; and her father, Robert York, Sr and brother
Robert York, Jr
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband, Christopher C Knowles,Jr; three daughters, Theresa of
Huntsville, AL, Gayle, and Dessie both of Mobile, AL; three sons, Christopher IV, of Mobile, AL, Marcus of
LaGrange, GA, and Gregg (Tamara) of Mobile, AL; four sisters, Shirley York, Maxine Scott, Brenda Scott, and
Francine York all of Mobile, Al; four brothers, Charles York, William York, Terry York, and Douglas York all
of Mobile, AL; nine grandchildren, Clarrissa, Arlene, Gregg, Jr., Christopher, Malcolm, Nigzhel, Treyland,
Keeland, Christian, Tremendous and Terry; three great-grandchildren, Kadence, Erica, and Khristian;
sister-in-laws, Christie Abrams, Mary (James) Floyd, Dorothy Williams, Barbara Smith all of Mobile, AL,
Patricia Knowles of Dallas, TX and Carolyn Knowles of Chicago, IL; a host of nieces and nephews, as well as
great-nieces and great nephews.
Jean was born on August 1, 1943 in Hybart, Alabama. She later moved to Mobile where she graduated from
Cedar Grove Academy in 1961. Jean, retired from the Mobile County License Commissioner Office after
twenty-five years of services. After retiring, she dedicated her life to her loving husband, children,
grandchildren and traveling.
She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother whose greatest
passion was spending time with her family.
