Elaine Kirksey, transitioned from this life to her heavenly abode on Friday, February 5, 2021 at her home, in Mobile, Alabama.
Shortly after her birth in Gilbertown, Alabama, the family moved to Mobile, AL, where she spent the remainder of her life. A true Woman of Valor, Elaine was a member of True Worship Teaching Ministries, Pastor Broderick F. Kirksey, and
life-long member of Little Welcome Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor J.C.Garror.
Elaine was a proud member of The Central High School Wildcats, Classof 1971, but due to integration, her class graduated from S.S. Murphy High School that same year. As an academic standout, Elaine would routinely bypass
the chance to hangout in the school’s quad with her peers, but could be found within the aisles of Central’s library, absorbing knowledge that would garner a lifetime of learning.
She always had a desire to teach others qualities that would enhance their lives for the better. Elaine chose to enter the workforce following high school. She worked as a secretary for MCPSS, Council Elementary School. Later, because of
her personal desire to become an African-American female FBI agent, she changed her career to security with S.D. Bishop State Community College where she quickly moved up in the ranks of leadership. It was during this time that
Elaine found her true passion and began to pursue her education at Bishop State to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. Elaine’s nursing career spanned over thirty years, working for both Hillhaven Nursing Home (Kindred Healthcare) and
Cogburn Nursing Home (Palm Gardens Rehabilitation Facility), where she retired from in 2016 to lovingly care for her mother in her final days. Elaine was such a loving and caring soul. Her love was reflected in every person that ever
came into contact with her. A fountain of knowledge, she was always willing to bestow her pearls of wisdom to those she loved.
Preceding her in death were her father, William Kirksey Sr.; mother, Eddie Lee Bonner-Kirksey; brothers: John Lynn Kirksey, Roy Lee Kirksey and Darnell Kirksey; sister-in-law, Sheila Sumpter-Kirksey; niece, Francis Kirksey; nephew,
Roy Lee Kirksey, Jr.; and great-nephew, Michael Scott Grace Jr.
Elaine is survived by her only child, son, Brandon (Jessica) D. Kirksey of Virginia Beach, VA; three granddaughters: Emma, Stella and Ava; sister, Lorraine Kirksey of Mobile, AL; brothers: William Jr. (Bessie) of St. Louis, MO,
Eddy Glen of New Orleans, LA, Lloyd and Floyd Kirksey of Mobile, AL; four sisters-in-law: Doris, Wan and Sabreen Kirksey, Elizabeth Butler all of Mobile, AL; two life-long friends: Marie Pettway of Mobile, AL and Fred Gamble of

Elaine was an extraordinary Queen in our family’s eyes, as well as, her many friends, classmates and co-workers. She forever displayed the love of God in every position of service opportunity she endeavored upon. She was a true
mother-figure, mentor, spiritual partner, friend and caregiver to so many. Elaine will forever hold a place of honor in all of our hearts.
