Obituary for Estella Thomas

ESTELLA M. THOMAS a journey that began on January 12, 1926, the fourth child of the late Julius and Evelyn McCants was born in Atmore, Alabama.
She moved to Mobile where she grew up in the Down the Bay area. At an early age, Estella affectionately known to her family as “Stella,” professed her faith and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, and was united to John W. Thomas, Sr. whom she remained married to until his passing. As the grandchildren were born, she became known as “Granny,” and so is it with the life of Estella.
Such a life filled with beauty, wisdom, smiles, loveliness, inquisitiveness, and purpose will never be lost. Her passing on Monday, February 22, 2021 at the age of ninety five is a deep loss to her family and friends.
Estella was preceded in death by her sister: Cherry Upshaw; brothers: Amos McCants and Julius McCants, Jr.; sons: Jimmie McCants and James McCants; grandson: Verdell Crawford; and niece: Shirley Jackson.
She leaves to cherish her memory two sons: Verdell (Elaine) Thomas of Mobile, AL and John W. (Dorothy) Thomas, Jr. of Pensacola, FL; two daughters: Carolyn Thomas of Mobile, AL; and Gloria (George) Sims of Woodbridge, VA; four nieces: Evelyn James, Juanita (Frederick) Murray, Joy McCants, and Mamie (James) Roberts all of Mobile, AL ; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren all of whom were well loved; cousins and special friends: Gwendolyn Hunt Betts and Julia Bownlee both of Mobile, AL and many other relatives and friends.
