Obituary for Esther Lee Shufford

Esther Lee Grissett Shufford, age 64, of Mobile, Alabama, transitioned from earth to glory September 3, 2018. She was born to L.T. Grissett and Katie Lee Williams October 28, 1953, in Atmore, Alabama. She accepted Christ as her personal Saviour at an early age and was baptized and united with Gaines Chapel A.M.E. Church of Atmore, Alabama. She graduated from Escambia County High School in Atmore, Alabama. She married Larry Hampton and they had two children together. She later moved to Detroit, Michigan where she met and married Robert Shufford, Jr. and married him. She resided in Detroit, Michigan for 25 years where she worked at Cintas Uniform before relocating to Mobile, Alabama.

She was preceded in death by her brother Samuel McCants, father L.T. Grissett, step-father Jessie Lee Williams, Jr., mother Katie Lee Williams, brothers, Bobby Lee Jones, Freddie Grissett, and Willie Ed McCants and uncles, Rev. Paul McCants, Rev. Phillip McCants and Ishmael McCants, and aunt Louise G McCants.
She is survived by her husband Robert Shufford, Jr., and two devoted daughters to carry on her legacy Katrina (Leon) Frazier and Lisa Johnson of Mobile, AL. (She loved her daughters’ siblings Brian and Idari Hampton like her own children and would affectionately called them her babies.)
She leaves to cherish her memory three siblings Otis (Terry) Gray, Lathrop Village, Michigan; Jessie Williams, Jr., Bay Minette, Alabama and Charles (Alberta) Jones, Mobile, Alabama. She also leaves two granddaughters Shakira Tyler and Jalisa Johnson, and four great-granddaughters Jaelyn Tyler, Jordan Tyler, Mi’Kenzie and Mi’Kyah Smith. Three devoted nieces Tovjvanese (Robert) Grissett Wilkerson of Demopolis, Alabama and Tonyaneka (Ashley) Grissett Gaskins of Atmore, Alabama; Tamika (Timothy) Burke, Southfield, Michigan; two devoted nephews Omar Gray, Southfield, Michigan; and Zaphine (Lauren) Jones of Atmore, Alabama. A host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends. Five devoted sisters-in-law Yvonne (Jacob) Archie of Atmore, Alabama; Juanita (Morris) Barnes, Arneita Harrison, Debora (Michael) James of Mobile, Alabama; and Flora McCants of Marlette, Michigan; special friend Kevin Allen (Bailey and the twins), three devoted cousins David (Regina) McCants, Urla (Frank) Boggan, and Betty Bradley of Atmore, Alabama and a loving caregiver Niecy Patton.
