Obituary for Ethel Woodyard Merriweather

Mrs. Ethel Lee Woodyard Merriweather was born October 31, 1932 in Sunflower, Al. to the union of Edward Woodyard and Annie Robinson Woodyard. She accepted Christ in her youth at Mount Shady AME Zion Church in her birth town. She loved tending to her flowers, word search books, reading her bible and feeding stray pets. Helping others gave her unmeasurable joy.

She held onto her strong faith throughout her illness until her death. She loved and protected her family unconditionally. Ethel was a hardworking dedicated employee. She worked over 35 years in the food industry at various restaurants throughout the city of Mobile. After leaving the food industry she dedicated 15 more years to the retail industry before retiring.

She was preceded in death by her daughter; Ethel Dees, sons; Victor Merriweather, Marcezette Merriweather and Marteniz Merriweather, grandson; Jesse Pettaway Jr. and one great-granddaughter; Meladee Pettaway.

She leaves to cherish her memories her remaining children: Mary Frances (John) Hunter, Anchorage, AK, Jacquelyn Leverson and Patricia Colvin both of Moss Point, MS, Quincy (Jennifer) Merriweather, Covington, LA, Gus (Debbie) Merriweather, Jacksonville, FL, Jessica (Jesse) Pettaway, Mobile, AL., adopted son; Terry (Georgia) Williams. She has 24 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-great-grandchildren. Her last living siblings Willie B. Anderson, Bronx, NY and Mae Helen Ezell, Mobile, Al. Sisters in law; Etta Mae Crenshaw, Greenville, Al. and Helen Merriweather, Mobile, Al.
