Obituary for Frances Inez McDaniel

Justified freely by God’s grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus (Romans 3:24).

Frances Inez McDaniel was born November 29, 1931 to Walter D. Garner and Frances Grace Betts (née Dortch) in Mobile, AL. Mother Inez graduated from high school from the Allen Institute with the Class of 1948. She was largely employed in retail throughout her adulthood. Truly a child of God, Mother Inez attended and served in church from her childhood. She was an exemplary member of Crockett Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church as she served as a Trustee Board Member, Steward Board Member, Deaconess, Asst. Superattendant, Class Leader, Leader of Leaders, Asst. Sunday School Teacher, and Prayer Warrior. It was at Crockett that she would find her lifelong friends and Christian family.

Serve God with a pure conscience (2 Timothy 1:3).

Inez nourished her family, friends, and community by sharing spiritual guidance, her meals, her time, and her home. Even when she had little to spare, she always managed to share her special sandwiches, delicious peanut butter cookies, her famous sweet potato bread, or the food from her own table to minister to them. She sacrificed her last to the community, putting her trust in God, confident in knowing that He would always provide.

With her unfeigned faith she loved her family, treating each one with special, individual love and affection, always there in their times of need no matter what the test. She taught them to soar with the eagles. As a devoted church member, Inez had outstanding abilities to avail herself of all her virtues as she gave herself to make others better.

She was a manifested example of the meaning of her name, “free” and “pure”, and her children call her blessed.

Frances Inez Garner McDaniel, a resident of Prichard, AL, was peacefully called home by her Heavenly Father on October 24, 2020. She was preceded in death by her loving mother, Frances Grace Betts, her father, Walter Garner, her step-father Leo Betts, and her beloved brother Wilbert Williams. Her memory and love endure in the hearts of her cherished sister Betty Ruth Miller, Harrisburg, PA; five children Peggy Harvey, Barbara Hamilton, Rev. Allen B. McDaniel, Sr., all of Mobile, AL, Grace Elaine (Michael) White, Garland, TX, and Reginald Garner, Clarksburg, WV; 13 grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren, especially devoted nieces Alyson Rogers and Bernisha Garner, a host of other nieces and nephews, many other loving family members and friends, a devoted cousin Levi Williams and special friend, Wiler Stanfield.
