Obituary for Fredrick Orlando Merriweather

A Life Well Lived:
Mr. Fredrick Orlando Merriweather
February 10th, 1969 – August 1st. 2022

Mr. Fredrick Orlando Merriweather, a native of Whistler, Alabama and a resident of Eight Mile, Alabama departed this life to eternal rest on August 1, 2022. He was born to the late Ms. Brenda Joyce Williams & the late Mr. Fletcher Henry Rivers. He was affectionately reared by the late Rev. Issac & Barbara Ann Merriweather.

Fred accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Central Baptist Church in Prichard, Alabama.

As a youth he matriculated through Martha Thomas Elementary School and Trinity Gardens Middle School. Finally reaching the C.F. Vigor High School (Home of The Mighty Wolf Pack) there he nurtured old friendships and established new ones, that would stand the test of time. When he became your friend, he was that through and through.

While at Vigor; he loved participating in the Vigor High School Chorus. Fred was also, an essential member of the 87’-88’ championship football team. He then bided adieu to Vigor and on July 12th, 1988, he became a proud United States Marine. He was deployed during Operation Desert Storm; LCPL Merriweather served honorably. Upon his return home, he was employed with US Marshalls Service, Mobile Metro, and later became a CSX Railroad Conductor for several years.

Fred later joined The Mount Olive Baptist Church Family of Mauvilla. He served in various civic organizations throughout the Mobile area. Three organizations that were near and dear to his heart: P.L. Wilson Detachment Marine Corps. League, The Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association (MAMGA) where he served in various capacities, and the Perryman Singers. He had a voice like no other and sang gospel quartet music with the renowned Perryman Brothers in and around Mobile and surrounding areas.

Fred enjoyed collegiate and professional sports. He was an avid– New Orleans Saints, Atlanta Braves, and Alabama Crimson Tide fan. He also loved fine dining, and traveling in and out of the United States.

Fred will forever be cherished and remembered by his loving & devoted wife Theresa Michelle Spencer Merriweather; devoted sons: Melvin (Annette) Dunn Jr. (US Army), Mobile, AL, Joshua X. Dunn (US Navy), Pensacola, FL, Benjamin G. Foster, Montgomery, AL; brothers: D’Angelo (Tamara), Andrae (Alicia); sisters: Kayla Renee Merriweather and ArBrina (Joseph) Williams all of Mobile, AL; a loving grandmother: Mildred Towner Rivers of Eight Mile, AL; stepmother, Ms. Carrie Pugh Rivers of Eight Mile, AL; aunts: Cynthia (Theodore) Tarver, Birmingham, AL, Sandra (Don) Jackson, Pauline Rivers, Mobile, AL, Mamie (Willie) Andrews, Bronx, New York, Ethel and Helen Merriweather, Mobile, AL, Etta Mae (Jasper) Curry, Greenville, AL; uncles: Sidney (Louise), Ronnie (April) Rivers, Robert Andrews, Shawn, and Paul Hardy, all of Mobile, AL; mother-in-law: Dora Bolden, Eight Mile, AL, father-in-law: Curlee (Christine) Spencer Jr., Jackson, AL; brother-in-law: Curlee Spencer III; sisters-in-law: Cassandra Spencer, Mobile, AL, Victoria (Duane) Haston, Ocean Springs, MS; one endearing grandson: Judah Alexander Dunn; godson: Bruce Hurd Jr., and goddaughter Courtney Evans, all of Mobile, AL; devoted friends: Bruce (Chaquanna) Hurd, Dwayne Johnson, Chelsea Dubose, Terry (Kim) Westmoreland, all of Mobile, AL, and Shawn (Leroy) Bosby, New Orleans, LA. a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
