Deaconess Freida Walker
March 28, 1941 – March 21, 2024
At The Noonday Hour God Whispered:

Freida L. Walker, born in Mobile, AL, was the only child born from the union of the late Wesley Baker and Dorothy Dawson Baker.

Freida accepted Christ and united with Sunlight Missionary Baptist Church where she was a faithful and very active member for several decades. She served on the Pastor’s Aide Committee, Adult Choir and the Church Outreach & Communications Department. Freida was well-known in the tri-city for serving as Soloist and Mistress-of-Ceremony for numerous functions/occasions.

Freida was an outstanding Cook. She enjoyed displaying her prepared dishes and entertaining family members and friends. She took pride in home decorating and caring for her many beautiful plants.

Freida was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Joseph Walker; two sons: Clarence Hinton and “Sambo” Walker; two daughters: Myra Bell and Queen Esther Fajingbesi; and two special family members: Nathaniel Little and Bertha Jackson. She leaves to cherish her lasting memories, one son: Frederick Smith of Nashville, TN; five daughters: a loving daughter, Maria (Frederick) Cephas of Augusta, GA; Shirley Payne, Sharon Walker, two devoted daughters, Patricia (Rev. Carl) Johnson and Deborah (Lawrence) Powe, all of Mobile, AL. Deborah faithfully served as her primary caregiver and advocate; (25) grandchildren, (23) great-grandchildren and (4) great-great grandchildren; two sisters: Loretta Sinclair of
Dayton, OH and Mary Dawson of Phoenix, AZ; beloved sister-in-law, Percie Leggett of Mobile, AL; devoted niece, Jacqueline Garrett of Montgomery, AL; Special family members: Leroy Little of Mobile, AL; Alma Small of Delanco, New Jersey; James Little, Ann Little, Gertrude Little, Mergie Little, Minnie Marshall, Cora Morse, and Esther Marie Norfleet, all of Detroit, MI; two well-loved Godchildren: Kali and Kari Irby; loyal best friend, Bonita English, and a longtime devoted friend, Louis Anderson, all of Mobile, AL.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
