Obituary for General Major Jr.

General Major, Jr., affectionately known to family and friends as “Bump” exchanged life for eternity on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Mobile Infirmary Medica Center. General, a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama was born July 20, 1943 to the union of General Major, Sr. and Calonya Major.
General accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, and remained an active member until his death.
General was a graduate of Central High School. He retired from Ingalls Shipyard after over thirty years of dedicated service as a first- class welder.
He was married to the love of his life Ettrue Major for fifty-three years. They had three wonderful children whom he loved dearly. He was a loving, dedicated and supportive husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Being the eldest of sixteen children, he proudly took on the role of Patriarch after the passing of his parents. Everyone always looked up to him and he was always willing to help anyone, in any way he could. He was a man of large stature, but had such a kind, gentle spirit. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, General Major, Sr., and Calonya Major; one sister, Clara Cunningham; three brothers: Samuel Major, Leroy Major and Cleophus Major.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories a loving and devoted wife, Ettrue Jean Major; three devoted children: Jacquelyn Gibson, Jerome (Latoya) Major and Janice (Korwin) Harris; six brothers: Johnny (Ella Ruth) Major, Walter James ( Mae Liz) Major, Bernard Major, Willie Major, Curtis Major and Rodney (Celena) Major; five sisters: Maggie McCaskey, Gloria (Leslie) Cunningham, Brenda (Karl) Frison, Deborah (Charles) Thomas and Diane (Richard) Scott. He also leaves several brothers and sisters-in-law: Henrietta Major, Lillie Bell Hawthorne, Lois Gregory, Annie Ruth Davis, Lou Hellen Davis, Dorothy Darrington, Ezell Simpson, Joe Lee (Lue Nell) Simpson and Percy (Katasha)Simpson; former daughter-in-law, Lavern Major; six grandchildren: Shantaya Derks, Randy Gibson, Kailyn Harris, Zimberlyn Major, Kourtlyn Harris and Korwin Harris, III; two great-grandchildren: Keyonna Gibson and Kayleigh Derks; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
