Obituary for George Edward Green

George Edward Greene was born February 22, 1940 to Mary Bell Green and Emanuel Green, Sr. in Mobile, Alabama. He departed this life on Sunday, June 28, 2020. One of seven children, he was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Emanuel Jr. and Ezell Greene.

George graduated from Mobile County Training School and attended barbering school in Texas. He worked in Chicago, Illinois and returned to Mobile, where he worked at Waller Brothers and became an office manager. An avid entrepreneur, he retired and continued working at his lifetime dream in Greene Statuary and Monuments. He was a fixture at the Mobile Flea Market for close to 20 years, where he sold fountains, birdbaths and memorial products. He was happiest creating his works of art and running his business.

In 1979, George met his wife, Betty, and they were married in 1984. They enjoyed many years together. He cherished living in Lloyd Station and took great pride in his community.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Betty Greene; loving daughters, Angela (Samuel) Bradley, Valerie Greene, Karlyn Greene-Watson, LaTasha Greene, Stefanie (Solomon) Patton, and Sophia Lee; devoted son, James Russell (LaQueshia) Lee; dedicated sisters, Elizabeth (Chester) Biddle, Doris (Henry) Johnson, Mary Battiste, and Sarah (Arvin) Millender; devoted cousin, Earl Jones; devoted friend, Walter; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
