Obituary for George Rogers Jr.

George”Nick “Rogers Jr. was born October 7, 1938 in Grand Bay, Alabama, to the union of George Rogers Sr. and Loraine Bowie-Rogers of whom both, preceded him in death.” Nick” was a devout Christian, and member of Freewater Missionary Baptist church in Irvington, Alabama under the leadership of Reverend Dr., D.B. Bennett who he truly loved . He also loved working with the FMBC Men’s Ministry formed and headed by President, Deacon Gerald “Buck” Thompson. Playing his guitar for his church choir was what he said God had called him to do, he was very vocal and passionate about his “calling “. Nick was related to everyone in Dixon Corner, and loved them all dearly. He was a born leader, and retired honorably from the United States Army, where he received the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Vietnam Campaign Medal; 2 Overseas Service Bars; Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with/palms; Good Conduct Medal (6th award); Gold Recruiter Badge w/2d Sapphire Achievement Star; Army Commendation Medal; Expert Badge, M16 Rifle; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon (4); NCO Professional Development Ribbon; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Recruiters Badge with/3rd Gold Star. After retiring from the Military which he worked as an Army Recruiter in Phoenix, Arizona.
He Moved on from recruiting to become a General Contractor, and formed a very successful Business.
Nick was a Prince Hall Master Mason 33degree, as well as a Past Potentate in the Shriners.
He had five brothers. George “Nick “ Rogers lived every moment for his “two girls “, his wife Marilyn, and granddaughter Dahlaney. Nick was the eldest of ten children.
Vernon (deceased),Henry (deceased),Homer Ray/ Ernestine of Las Vegas, Nevada, Harold/Debra of Enterprise, Alabama, Mark Steven of Grand Bay, Alabama. Four sisters,Sharon of Grand Bay, Alabama Regina/Henry of Grand Bay, Alabama, Earline of Montgomery, Alabama,JoAnne of Atlanta, Georgia, and a host of nieces, and nephews.
Nick also leaves behind the love of his life, his devoted and loving wife Marilyn, special granddaughter Dahlaney Thompson whom he loved, raised and nurtured, stepsons Damon Brown, and Dustin Johnson,
whom he loved unconditionally, six grandsons Damon L. Brown Jr., Dezmond Brown/United States Army, Deon Brown, Mauri/United States Army, Davon Brown and Elijah Brown.
George “Nick” Rogers Jr. will be missed by his wife, family, and friends, but leaves a legacy that will
Always be remembered, Never be forgotten.
