Obituary for Gertrude E. Allen (Gamble)
Born December I, I 950 to the union of Eddie Gamble Jr. and Gertrude Gamble "Lil Gert" graduated from Toulminville High School in 1968, the very first class for that school. After a brief marriage and the birth of two lovely daughters, she embarked upon a career in retail. Her first stop was Lerner downtown and later Bel Air Mall. Years later she found employment at Stein Mart and in September 2016 she retired from Dillards. During her career she was affectionately known as a kind, sweet, loving, and caring lady. Everyone was blessed by her presence.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Patricia and her brother Eddie III. She is survived by her husband A. Ray Allen, daughters Latarsha (Percy) Jones, Niccolle Johnson, her sister Desiree Henderson and her brother Calvin Gamble; grandchildren Nailah and Percy Jones II; Sister-in-laws Mable and Dell Gamble, Eleanor (Lewis) Bailey, Regina Elliott, and Rowena Maxine Flintroy; brother-in-laws Ernest Allen Jr., Charles Allen, and LaFrance Allen.
Most of all she loved family and she loved the Lord. Early on she was a member of Canaan Baptist Church and currently a member of Ebenezer. A very giving person she was and will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her. A Memorial Service will be held in her honor on Saturday January 21, 2023, 11 :00 a.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church 5051 Ebenezer Dr. (Demetropolis Rd.).
