“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you into myself that where I am, there ye May be also.” John 14:3
Gladys Mae Watts Clausell transitioned from this earthly life on the afternoon of Monday, June 8 th, 2020 to be with the Lord. Gladys was born July 5th, 1938 to the union of the late Warnell Watts and Lovaler Rankins Watts in Century, Fl. She confessed her belief in Christ at an early age and joined the Pilgrim Lodge Baptist Church with her family. Gladys was raised in Century and talked fondly about memories of visiting her grandfather aka “Big Papa” in Evergreen, AL. During her teenage years, she worked the summers in what she called the “fields” and helped her mother with chores; she excelled and was able to graduate from George Washington Carver High School in 1956 as salutatorian. Circa 1958 she moved to Mobile AL and later joined the Aimwell Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. T. J. Hayles. She served faithfully as a member of the Matrons, Crusaders (Leader), Sunday School, Mobile Sunlight District Association Baptist Training Union (BTU), Boy Scot Troop 600 (Treasurer) and Mission Ministry until her health limited her activities. In Mrs. Clausell’s Christian walk she served her church & community and loved guiding young women and children on the values of being a good person and Christian. Mrs. Clausell’s Mobile work history started with her working a domestic housekeeper for a prominent local doctor. She then took an opportunity to work in the Mobile County School System as a Teacher’s Assistance helping Mobile’s effort to better integrate. She worked at South Brookley & Woodstock Elementary Schools. After furthering her education through Carver State Technical School she accepted a position as a Court Clerk for the City of Prichard. Gladys continued her education by completing classes at Bishop State. She served as Fiscal Officer (Supervisor/lead) in the City of Mobile Treasury Department for over twenty years before retiring from the City of Mobile in 2000. Mrs. Clausell enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Gladys was lovingly called by various names: “Mama, Grand Mama, Mama Clausell, Aunt Mae, Aunt Mae Mae, Gladys Mae and Lady G.”
