Obituary for Gloria Jackson (Rodgers)

Gloria Rodgers Jackson a native of Mobile, Alabama and long time resident of Los Angeles, California departed this life on Sunday, August 25, 2019 at her home. Mrs. Jackson was preceeded in death by her husband of 60 years, Davidson Charles Jackson, her parents, Howard L. Rodgers, Sr. and Odessa Platt Rodgers, a brother, Howard L. Rodgers, Jr. and a sister, Claraetta Rodgers Daniels.

Mrs. Jackson was a long time member of Holy Family Catholic Church of South Pasadena, California. She was an active member in church organizations: The Ladies Auxillary of the Knights of Peter Claver, The Church Envirnoment Committee,The Altar Society, and Ministers to the Sick and Shut-in. She was a member of the 1944 graduating Class of Most Pure Heart of Mary High School. Following high school she attended St. Mary’s Infirmary of Nursing in St. Louis Missouri. She was later employed at St. Martin DePores Hospital in Mobile in the accounting department. Years later she was employed with the Mobile County School System as the school secretary for Booker T. Washington Jr. High School. Upon relocating to Los Angeles, California, Mrs. Jackson was employed with the Bank of America, Inc. and Coast Federal Savings and Loan Association where she served as Senior Loan Officer until her retirement. Mrs. Jackson held past membership in The Chatterbox Social Club, Most Pure Heart of Mary Alumni Association, and Coast Federal Retiree Association, and the National Council Catholic Women.

She leaves to cherish her memory one devoted sister, Madeleine Rodgers Green, Mobile, AL; two nieces Harriet Parker, Philadelphia, PA, Tonja Daniels Smith Mobile, AL; five nephews , Howard (Belinda) L. Rodgers, III, New Orleans LA, Dr. Griffin (Sherry) Rodgers, Silver Springs, MD, Manuel X. Green, III, David Daniels, III, and Marvin Green, Mobile, AL. A host of devoted cousins, Myrtis (John) H. Cline, Clinton, MD, Yvonne H. Jackson, Mobile, AL, James Garrett, Nashville, TN and Harold (Elaine) Henderson; devoted friends, Ken and Carole, Phonix AZ, friends, Phil Valenzuela Los Angels, CA, Valena W. McCants, Jessie W.Robinson, and Mary W. Butler Mobile, AL and devoted caregivers, Ben Cruz, Los Angeles, CA, LaShandra Zeine-English, Pamela Oliver, Katrina Reed, and Leslie Small Leatherwood, Mobile, AL.
