Obituary for Gwendolyn Marie Prince (Lyons)

Gwendolyn Marie Lyons was born on Thursday, December 29, 1955, in Pensacola, Florida to the late Billy Chance Lyons Sr. and Annie Lee (Williams) Lyons. Early in her childhood, Gwen moved to Rhode Island when her father was stationed at the Rhode Island Navy Base. Being the person she was, she cultivated many lifelong friendships especially those from East Bowery Street in Newport. Gwendolyn committed her life to God and His word in her teenage years, where she served faithfully at Keys Memorial C.O.G.I.C. She was a true worshipper and knew how important it was to lead people into the presence of God.
In October of 1977, she married Ervin Leon Prince and from this union came Carmen Janine and Ervin Leon Prince Jr. During their marriage The Prince’s sang for everyone from Presidents to the upper echelon of the Church of God in Christ hierarchy. They were well known for their music ministry. In the early 1980’s, God assigned them to New Orleans, Louisiana where Ervin was stationed at the Navy Base. They continued their music ministry throughout the Church of God in Christ. Although the marriage dissolved in 1992, the two remained good friends and great co-parents.
In 1992, Gwendolyn relocated to her mother’s hometown of Foley, Alabama where she laid down roots with her close friends and family. While on her journey she met Terry Delaine Curtis. The two became a couple and in 1996 married at New Fellowship and Worship Center in Foley, Alabama. The two did not have any children together. However, Terry has one daughter, Selena Curtis whom Gwendolyn loved dearly. Although, the marriage did not work out, they remained married until her time of death.
During her career days, Gwendolyn worked as a Pharmacy Technician for many years at Harco Drugs and Winn Dixie Pharmacy. She changed careers to style women at Kasper clothing store at Tanger Outlet which she enjoyed extremely. She retired early in 2017 and loved making jewelry, watching shows and movies on Netflix and Hulu, having long phone conversations with her friends and family, watching people she subscribed to on YouTube like: Shuler King, The Realest and of course her favorite mukbang. If you don’t know what that is, look it up. She has all her great nieces watching it.
Gwendolyn loved facetiming her great grandsons and seeing them as often as possible. She was all about family and took tons of pictures for decades to be sure when she was no longer here her memory would live on through each capture. She enjoyed posting motivational quotes on social media and she was the administrator for the group Queendom Behavior on Facebook that was started by her daughter Carmen. She loved to inspire women to live their best life uninhibited but according to the word of God.
