Obituary for Hattie Mae Williams

Mother Hattie Mae Williams, a native of Magnolia Springs, Alabama, was born on December 26, 1926, and departed this earthly life peacefully on Sunday morning, February 10, 2019. Preceding her in death were her mother, Mrs. Mary Lonnie Dunagan Sneed, father, Mr. Dacy July; her husband, Mr. Leonard Fred Williams; sons, Frank Aaron Williams, Fred Lonnie Williams and James Major Williams; daughters, Cynthia Gail Williams, Catherine Williams Packer and grandson, Robert Gregory Williams. At a young age, Mother Williams accepted Christ as her personal savior and was baptized. She joined St. Luke Baptist Church, (currently, Pastor Buford Hall). She later joined her family at Washington Avenue First Baptist Church (First Baptist Missionary Baptist Church Baltimore Street, Melvin Clark, Pastor). For the past 37 years, she has been a member of Greater Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church #2, Reverend Gabe Davis, Jr., Pastor, where she was a dedicated member of the Sunday School Department, Mother’s Board, and the Missionary Society. Mother Williams attended Dunbar High School and Spring Hill College, receiving certification in Early Childhood Education. In the earlier years she worked with the Head Start Pre-School program, Trinity Land DayCare before retiring from the Alabama Department of Human Resources as a Human Service Aide.

Left to cherish Mother’s precious memories are her beloved children, Reginald T. (Elizabeth) Williams, San Antonio, Texas, Mary Carmen Williams, Mobile, Alabama, and David L. (Alison) Williams, Alpharetta, Georgia; daughters-in-law, one devoted and caregiver, Linda J. Williams, Mobile, Alabama, Polly Williams, Jacksonville, Florida; son-in-law, James Packer, Mobile, Alabama; grandchildren Chizellé Archie, Atlanta, GA, Danyale (Tyrone) Davis, Mobile, AL, and Nadia (Shamar) Gramby, Birmingham, AL; Dana Howell, California, PFC Ridge Williams, Suffolk, VA, and Blake Williams, Alpharetta, GA; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth C. Davis, Mobile, AL, Freedom J. Archie, Atlanta, GA, and Khalil L. Gramby, Birmingham, AL; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Annie Freed, Mobile, AL, and Mrs. Arilla Williams, Collirene, AL; special cousin Mrs. Janice (Deacon Green) Robinson Thomas; godchildren, Miriam (Ray, Sr.) Lewis, Ranus (Nolita) Williams, Barbara nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends, and her church family.

Her remains will lie in state on Friday, February 15, 2019 from 1-8 pm at Small's Mortuary, Mobile, AL. Visitation is Saturday, February 16, 2019 from 9 am until the 11:00 am funeral hour at Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church #2, 1109 Baltimore St., Mobile, AL. Interment will follow in the Oaklawn Cemetery, Mobile, AL.
