Obituary for Hazel Edwina Baldwin (Crandell)

Hazel Edwina Baldwin was born July 23, 1924, to the union of Ellen and Edward Crandell. She was the youngest of 8 children, all who have preceded her in death. She peacefully passed December 4, 2022, in Daphne, AL.

Hazel was a devoted mother/grandmother/great-grandmother and the matriarch of the family. She grew up in Daphne, AL where she attended Baldwin County Training school. On June 9th, 1944, she married the love of her life Yancey C. Baldwin, Sr. They later relocated with their 4 children to Milwaukee, WI where she was employed by Briggs and Stratton Corporation for 20 years. After retirement in 1976, they moved back to Daphne, AL where she was a devoted member of Greater Montrose A.M.E church serving in numerous capacities. In 2004, she became a member of City Hope Church, formerly Bay Community Church, in Malbis, AL. Hazel loved spending time with her family and was well known in the community for her loving spirit and passion for people.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 74 years Yancey C. Baldwin, Sr., 2 daughters Rose Marie Baldwin and Gay Ann Dawson, and 2 grandchildren Leroy Baker Baldwin and Marie Harrington. She is survived by her son Yancey Baldwin, Jr., and her daughter Julia Portia (Abe, Sr.) Harper of Daphne, AL; 8 grandchildren Valerie (Daniel) Brooks of Fort Worth, TX, Mashiya Davis of Willingboro, NJ, Nicole Montgomery of Grand Prairie, TX, Anitra (Jamal) McCullough of Newark, NJ, Lance (Bella) Baldwin of Woolrich, Germany, Clint Nathan (Rosa Marie) Baldwin of Denver, CO, Abe (Audra) Harper of Daphne, AL, and Carl (Cecily) Harper of Fairhope, AL.; 23 great grandchildren, 15 great-great grandchildren, one devoted Godson, John Michael Jemison, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends.
