Obituary for Helen Lucile Adams

Deaconess Helen Wiley Adams was born November 1, 1933 in Calvert, Alabama to the late William and Orinea Wiley. She was a lifelong resident of McIntosh, Alabama.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was an active member of Lang’s Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in McIntosh, Alabama for 53 years. In 2005 along with her husband, Freddie Lee Adams, Sr. they became the early members of the newly found Sweet Fellowship Christian Church.

Deaconess Helen Adams was a loving, dedicated and active member of Sweet Fellowship. She continued to support the ministries of the church throughout her illness. Her experiences were vital in organizing different ministries of the Church. She organized the Deaconess Board and remained the president until her death. She served as a member of the Trustees, Pastor Aide, Missionary and Choir.

The young and old will never forget quips and quotes, such as these quoted by our mother. They will forever remain in our hearts:
“If you pray, don’t worry; if you worry, don’t pray.”
“Live and learn…die and forget it all.”
“It’s not about me, it’s not about you…it’s all about love.”
“Love is what love does.”
“Everybody should love somebody.”

She was preceded in death by her husband, Freddie Lee Adams, Sr.; two daughters: Helenia Adams Reed and Rhonda Elaine Adams; one son: Freddie Lee Adams, Jr.; two brothers: John Wiley, Sr. and Waycross Wiley; six sisters: Ellen Parker, Mary Louise Law, Bessie Wiley, Pricilla English Towner, Oria Williams and Ernestine Ghee.

Our mother was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. She leaves to cherish four daughters: Christine (Larry) Hosea, Janice (Charles) Harper, Karen (Rodney) Nichols and Laner (Otto) Wilson; one son: Efrem (Helen) Adams; one daughter-in-law: Lillie Adams; one son-in-law: Napoleon (Faye) Reed; four sisters: Maxine (Julius) Young, Emily (Frank) Witherspoon, Edith Wilson, Annie Wiley; four sisters-in law; Minnie Wiley, Mary Jane (Charlie) White, Oreda Adams, Ella Mae Adams; three brother in-laws: Joseph Williams, Elijah Peoples and Cleveland Abrams; one god-daughter: Annie Sayas.

Grandchildren: Schafreda (Joe) Grimes, Demario Barnes, Derek (Deontrenese) Adams, Christopher (Sylvania) Beckham, Napoleon (Kalise) Reed, Jr., Rhonda (Terrell) McGrew, Bryan (Hope) Wilson, Shayla Adams, Adam (Annie) Wilson, Arielle Benedict, Joshua (Ayla) Nichols, Frederick Adams, Shane Harper, Chelsea Adams and Brendon Adams.

Twenty one great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
