Herman Edward Gamble, the man with a servant’s heart and a generous spirit passed through this earthly life on May 23, 2020. Family and friends were shocked and saddened of the unexpected and sudden passing of their loved one while working hard during a physical therapy session at a local hospital.

Herman was born on March 6, 1950 in Thomaston, Alabama where he worked on the family farm before relocating to Mobile, Alabama. He attended Blount High and was a proud graduate of Mobile County Training School where he was also a star basketball player. Shortly after graduation, Herman became employed with Coco-Cola Bottling Consolidated, Incorporated, where he would meet the love of his life and his future wife, Rose. Herman was a dedicated, loyal, respected and well-loved member of the Mobile Coco-Cola Bottling Consolidated, Inc. family, where he performed outstanding service for 43 years before retiring as a Mechanic Engineer Supervisor.

After retiring, Herman could often be found cooking or grilling for his family and friends. He was a great cook and grill master. He was often encouraged to open a restaurant specializing in Barbeque- “Mr. G’s Barbeque”. He enjoyed all sports. He could be found traveling with his granddaughter, Shelby Rose’s AAU Basketball team and traveling to her high school State Basketball championship games. He beamed in watching his grandsons, Leland and Timmy, play park football and high school football. He so enjoyed football! He almost never missed a Florida A&M Homecoming Game where he traveled with his daughter Shelbonnie and son in law Tim. However, his greatest love was Auburn Football. He was the biggest fan, and could often be found dressed in Auburn attire. He was a serious collector of anything Auburn.

Herman was a willing servant for the Lord and gave his life to Christ at the Greater Ruth Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church where he did just about everything, except preach. He was a faithful member, serving as Trustee, President of the Usher Board, member of the Male Choir, Vacation Bible School Teacher for the young children, and always served as a delegate to the Annual Conference of the Ninth Episcopal District, A.M.E Church.

Herman was proceeded in death by his loving wife Rose M. Gamble; father, Deacon Henry Silas, a mother and father-in-law, Helen and Ned Coleman; a grandson, Jamal Little; a sister, Norma Jean Gamble, a brother, Garcia Hurry; two sisters-in-law, Mary Coleman and Brenda Moore; three brothers-in-law, Eddie Lee Coleman, Nathan Coleman and Johnnie Coleman; two aunts, Maggie (John) Jingles and Carrie Kelley; three uncles, Edward (Leona) Gamble, Clarence (Gertrude) Gamble and Waddie Gamble.

He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving mother, Lillie Ree Silas, whom he took great pride and love in caring for at his home after retiring. A loving and devoted daughter Shelbonnie Hall, a loving and devoted son-in-law, Rev. Dr. Timothy Hall Sr., loving daughter Nyoka (Rodrick) Vaughan, and loving son, Cariteas Little; a loving niece, he considered a daughter, Cynthia Watts; all of Mobile, AL; three loving and devoted sisters, Christine (Robert) Hunter, Barbara (Bryan) Nicholson of Mobile, AL and Tracie Silas-Long of Forestville, MD; four loving and devoted brothers, Vernon Silas, Larry Silas, and Henry M. Silas III of Mobile, AL and Dwanye Silas of Sacramento, CA; two loving sisters-in-law, Ruby Martin and Shirley Richardson, both of Mobile, AL; two loving brothers-in-law, Freddie Coleman and Daniel Coleman, both of Mobile, AL. Angelo) Tucker of Pensacola, FL, a loving neighbor and friend Cleophas (Mary) Jones, and loving friend James Tricksy (Antoinette) of Mobile, AL; a watchful, loving neighbor and friend, John (Alison) B. Walker.

To my Big Brother Herman. I'm broken-hearted and shocked that you left me. You've taken your well deserved wings and transitioned to be with God and your sweet bride and wife Rose. I know you're at peace and this world owe you nothing. You paid the price here on earth with giving so much of yourself and loving all that captured your heart. I take comfort in knowing you're happy and at peace. I'm sure Rose was at the check-in gate beaming with joy when you got there!!! Herman, I love you soooooooo much and I KNOW how much you loved me. Thank you for all you poured into me. You was a GOOD MAN! The best Big Brother a Little Spoil Sister could ever pray for! Rest on and continue to protect me from heaven!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

The Mobile Municipal Court extends all sympathy to Judge Shelbonnie Hall and all family of Mr Gamble as his life with everyone gave love and happiness to so many. Of special note is the fulfilling Obituary that helps provide comfort and recalling special memories that can always be cherished forever. Our condolences to Judge Hall and we command in prayer and thankfulness for the joy Judge Hall gave to her Father while he walked among us, to always remain as jubilant as he was on that famous-memorable day as he smiled and hugged Judge Hall on the day she was sworn in as Judge of the Municipal Court. Now, as I may visit Judge Hall’s Office...the framed photo from the Front Page of the Mobile Press Register with Mr. Gamble’s cheerful face will celebrate his life for all is us.
