Obituary for Horace Miles

Horace Miles, III was born on September 21, 1945 in Mobile, Alabama to the late Dorothy and Horace
Miles. On Sunday July 12, 2020, he was called home to be with his heavenly father.
Horace graduated from Williamson High School, in Mobile, Alabama in 1963. He received his B.S. degree
from the University of South Alabama and attained his Masters Degree from Liberty University. Horace
was an educator at Mt. Calvary Lutheran School, Revelation Christian Academy and a variety of other
schools.
Horace had a passion for music. He also loved to teach, and he combined his favorite desires by
mentoring, tutoring, and teaching children piano. He was well known around the city for sharing his
talent. He was ready, willing and able to share his love of music and amazing talent whenever needed or
called upon.
Horace was a faithful member and organist at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church under the leadership of
Reverend Jimmy McCants. Horace had an infectious smile. He was also known for his good sense of
humor, quick wit and his kind and compassionate spirit. He had a flair for fashion that made him stand
out from all the rest.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Lionel Miles and Clifford Miles.
Left to cherish his memory is his devoted baby sister, Phyllis Carleton; very devoted aunt, Mary Benson;
Nieces: Poketha Ruffin (Michael); Valencia Jackson (Mitchell), Shywonda Austin (Dwight), Charea Miles,
Tracy Miles and Sandra Miles; Nephews: Labarron Carleton (Kristina), Phillip Carleton (Margaret) and
Sampson Beard; Sister-in-law Cheryl Miles; Goddaughter Cande Crockett; close cousins Yvette, Barbara,
and Tony and a host of other relatives, students and loyal friends.
