Deacon J. C. Sullivan, a native of Dallas County, was born October 6, 1935 in Minter, Alabama to the union of the late Tuson Sullivan and Henretter Sullivan.
He departed this life on June 16, 2020 surrounded by his loved ones. Deacon Sullivan confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Friendship Baptist Church in Minter, Alabama. He later moved to Theodore, Alabama and united with the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend William King and served under the leadership of the late Dr. B. J. Parker, Sr. and current pastor, Dr. Howard L. Nelson Sr., where he served as an usher, a deacon, an assistant superintendent (3 years), head superintendent (38 years) and superintendent emeritus until death. He also served as the South End superintendent for years in the Old Landmark Baptist Association. Deacon J. C. Sullivan was the owner of J. C. Sullivan Construction Company where he was a well-known concrete mason and homebuilder in the Mobile and Theodore area.
Deacon Sullivan was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Mary Conner Sullivan, his mother, Henretter Sullivan, father, Tuson Sullivan, sisters: Margie Frison and Ceola Crawford, brothers: Author Smiley and Willie Sullivan, Sr. To cherish the memories of Deacon Sullivan are his six children: Jessie (Catherine), Vanessa (Donald) Nelson, Brenda (Cedric) Jackson, Roderick, Thirus (Sandra) and Derrell Sullivan all of Theodore, Alabama. One brother: George (Johnnie Mae) Sullivan, Theodore, Alabama. Three sisters: Eva Bell Davis of Minter, AL, Rosie (Samuel) Nelson, Theodore, AL. and Julia (Henry) Nelson of Mobile, AL. 12 grandchildren: Danielle (Justin) Regulus, Union City, GA, Xenophoner Howard, Mobile, AL, Jada (Lamontis) Gardner, Atlanta, GA., Octavia (Antwon) Angion, Hoover, AL., Brianna Jackson, Adrienne Nelson, Jessica Sullivan, Donald Nelson, Jr., Cameron and Colton Sullivan all of Theodore, Alabama, Thirus and Tabitha Franks, Mobile, AL. Seven great grandchildren: Jordyn and Justin R. Regulus, Taylor Angion, Armahni Coleman, Hayleigh Caster, Ivy Sullivan and Xavier Young. four brothers-in-laws: Cleveland Frison and Willie James (Salomia) Conner, of Theodore, AL., Charles (Linda) Conner, Duluth, GA and Forrest (Denise) Conner, Birmingham, AL. Five sisters-in-law: Emma J. (Lee) Anderson, Selma, AL, Fannie (Guy) Brown, Milwaukee, WI, Geneva (William) Moore, Inkster, MI, Elizabeth (Charles) Williams, Mobile, AL and Patricia (James) McCants, Theodore, AL. and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
