Jeannette Pettway was born on March 24, 1948 to the union of Mr. Willie Pettway, Sr. and Mrs. Margaret Craig-Pettway of Mobile, AL. She transitioned peacefully when the Lord called her home Friday, December 25, 2020.
Jeannette received her formal education in the Mobile School District graduating from Williamson High School. She accepted Christ in her life at an early age. She later decided to take her one and only son, NoKi to relocate to Buffalo, NY to further her career and became a community advocate in the City of Buffalo. Jeannette also joined the Walls Memorial AME Zion Church family.
Over the years, Jeannette shared her unique expertise in community activism to many of Buffalo's community and resource centers including the Fruit Belt Center, George K Arthur Center, Moot Center, CAO & Gloria J. Parks Center. When you met, her, she always greeted you with that big ‘ole smile and a kind hello. Jeannette enjoyed spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents Willie and Margaret Pettway; brothers, Willie “Shine” Pettway, Jr. and Jonathan Pettway; sisters, LeCandies Lewis, Thelma Jones, Dorothy Glover, Marjorie Hyde and Sandra Gail Lucky.
She leaves to cherish her memories: devoted son, Derrick D. “Noki” Pettway; one grandson in her heart, Attress Kennedy; sister, Ruby Pettway of Mobile AL as well as a host of nephews, nieces, cousins other relatives and friends.
