Obituary for John Ransom Jr.

John, the fourth child of the late John and Olevia Ransom Sr., was born in Yellow Bluff, Alabama. Following high school, John relocated to Mobile, AL, where he met and married his beloved wife of fifty-seven years, Patricia (Powe) Ransom. Together, they were blessed with five children. John found solace and community in Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, where he remained a dedicated member until his passing.

For 45 years, John dedicated his career to Mobile Infirmary Medical Center, showcasing unwavering commitment and expertise. He was also a cherished member of the Knights of Peter Claver, demonstrating his deep-rooted values and principles. Beyond his professional and community involvement, John had a passion for sports, gardening, and cherished moments with his family. His life was a testament to his faith, wisdom, discipline, and diligent work ethic.

John, a pillar to our family, who we all leaned on for guidance and support, is preceded in death by his parents: John Ransom Sr. and Olevia Ransom; four sisters: Cherry Ransom-Jones, Johnnie Ransom-Nicholson, Earline Ransom-Johnson, Mildred Ransom-Harris; one brother: Larry Ransom; three nephews: Walter Ransom, Michael Jones, and Thomas Ransom; one niece: Willar Queen Jones and one great-niece: Chiquita Jones.

Left to honor his legacy and cherish treasured memories are his loving wife, Patricia (Powe) Ransom; daughter Tiffany Ransom; sons Mark Ransom, John (Andrea) Ransom III, Christopher (Kejuandria) Ransom, and Jeffrey (Mayalleata) Ransom Sr.; grandchildren Bryan Columbus (Shayla) Ransom, Zykia (Donovan) Knight, Andre Ransom, Mark Lindsey, Bria Ransom, Jeffrey Ransom Jr., Maliyah Ransom, Christtersen Ransom, Caiden Ransom, Cedric King, and Patrick King; great-grandchildren Autumn Diamond, Ty’Niya Cummings, Tyitan Cummings, and Dawson Knight; sisters Mettie (Calvin) Thomas Hephzibah and Margie Ransom; brothers Willie (Leola) Ransom, Herbert Ransom, and Lonnie (Vivian) Ransom; living aunt Elorra Bassett; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends, all of whom carry forward John’s legacy of love and resilience.
