Johnnie Price Burden

Johnnie Price Burden, a native of Mobile, AL, born on December 29, 1940, departed this
life on May 12, 2021.
He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Maysville.
Mr. Burden, a devoted and accomplished teacher, retired from the Mobile County Public
School System after almost 40 years of service. He was an authority on state, local, and family
history and was often called upon for his in depth knowledge of historical events.
Johnnie graduated from Williamson High School in 1959. He received a Bachelor's
Degree in Education from Alabama State College (now Alabama State University) and a
Master’s Degree in Education from The University of South Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Ernestine Burden, four brothers,
Vernon B. Burden, Louis Burden, Preston Burden, and Anthony Burden, three sisters, Mattie
Burden Bailey, Lauretta Burden Diaz and Cynthia Burden Frazier.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: four children, Larlita Holder, Rodney
(Kenya) Kidd, Tamika (Willie) Blanks Jr., and Lydia Burden, six grandchildren, three sisters in
law, Fannie Burden, Iris Kelly, Michelle Burden, devoted nieces including, Deborah (Curtis)
Flakes, Sr., Daphne (Lionell) Smith, Delicia (Carl) Fuller, Alice Diaz, and Velma Diaz, a devoted
nephew Thomas (Vera) Anderson of Moreno Valley, California, and a host of other nephews,
nieces, relatives, and friends. Johnnie leaves a legacy of being a friend to everyone he met.
