Obituary for Johnnie Earl Dunning Sr.

Johnnie Earl Dunning was born January 26, 1939 to the union of Charlie and Maggie Dunning in Dixie Mills Alabama. He departed this life Tuesday, November 22, 2020.
Johnnie grew up in a home where God was the center of their home, he was baptized as a youth at the Church of God Pentecost. He went to Blount High School in Prichard Alabama, where he was a great athlete as a football and baseball player. Johnnie also had a love for music, he played the saxophone as well in the high school band.
He continued his love for music as a young man singing in a group. He also liked to DJ. He would make mix 8- Track tapes and sell them. He continued his love for sports by playing in the Douglas Baseball League. Johnnie was such a great athlete at every sport he played including tennis and bowling. In the late fifties, Johnnie left Alabama and took his family north in search of a better life. He was an extremely hard worker just like his Father. He was not afraid to do what it took to provide for his family. Johnnie was not only a hard worker but a leader. The Box Company saw Johnnie was a hard worker and gave him his first job as a supervisor. Then he got a great opportunity to work for Xerox, where he worked for over twenty years. He was interested in new opportunities as a technician. So by studying every day, listening to tapes of the manuals going to and from work, he took the test and became certified as a technician. He worked for Xerox until the company moved to Mexico where he retired. Johnnie was a man of few but power words. He will be greatly missed by so many.

Johnnie leaves to cherish his memories, six sons: Lamar (Toni) of Tampa, FL, Orlando (Lillian), of Fair Haven, NJ, Tony Christian of NJ, Anthony (Paula) of Plainfield, IL, Johnnie Jr. of Citronelle, AL and Shawn of Antioch, TN; two daughters: Jeanette of Chicago, IL and Felicia of Mt. Juliet, TN; fourteen grandchildren and ten great-
grandchildren; one brother, Marlon Earl of Saraland, AL; three

sisters: Stella Davis of Kalamazoo, MI, Evelyn Berkley of Theodore,
AL and Ethel (Ray) Rodgers of Mobile, AL; a host of nieces,
nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
