Obituary for Johnnie Mae Mason (Simpson)
Mrs. Johnnie Mae Mason passed away peacefully at Arabella Health and Wellness on April 2, 2024, after an extended illness at the age of 83.
Mrs. Mason was preceded in death by her parents Meller Lou Jackson of Mobile AL and Fred Simpson of Bessemer AL; her husband, Willie Mason and two sons Daryl Maurice Mason and Deland Alexander Mason.
She is survived by the two daughters Michele Denise Mason of Chicago, IL and Tia Mason (Dwight) Smith of Mobile, AL.
She also leaves to cherish her memory six grandchildren: Terrell Carey, Tamika Nelson, Alexandra Mason, Tangy Mason, Dwight Smith Jr and Daryl Smith. She also has 3 great grandchildren and a host of family near and dear to her as well as friends.
Mrs. Mason attended Dunbar, Central High School and Allen Institute all in Mobile.
She moved to the New York and married her high school sweetheart. She worked most of her life as a caregiver in New York, Connecticut and Alabama. She retired from the University of South Alabama in 2002.
