Obituary for Joseph Anthony Bassett

Mr. Joseph Anthony BASSETT, whose name means “God Will Increase” and “Highly Praiseworthy” was a native and longtime resident of of Mobile, Alabama. Born August 23, 1957 to the parentage of the late, Cyrial U. Bassett, Sr. and Florenia Ridgeway Bassett. He was the fourth child of five siblings. He entered into Eternal Life to be with the Lord God Almighty on June 28, 2020.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Cyrial & Florenia Bassett, Sr. his brothers, Cyrial U. Bassett, Jr. & Charles J. Bassett. Grandparents ~ Mr. Albert & Gertude Bassett, Elizabeth & Charles McRae and Mr. Julian & Rosetta Ridgeway, Sr.

He was born into the Body of Christ under the guidance of the Greater Pine Grove AME Church Family. Joseph confessed Christ at an early age and became a servant of the most High God, our Father.

During a brief stay in Brooklyn, New York he was member of People Institutional AME Church, serving various ministries. He was ordained as a Rabbi at Congregation Tree of Life. Joseph was currently a member of Harvest Church where he remained a loyal and faithful servant, serving in the Audio and Music Ministry. He was also an associate member of Wings of Life.

Joseph attended Whitney Elementary, Plateau, AL; I. S. 320 Junior High School, Brooklyn, NY. He graduated from Erasmus Hall High School, Brooklyn, New York. He enlisted in the U. S. Air Force in 1977 and served for 6 as an Air Force Ground Defense Specialist. The Lord called Joseph into the ministry and he attended Huntingdon Methodist Liberal Arts College. Joseph loved playing the piano, composed a lot of his own songs and music. Joseph had such a sweet humble spirit.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories to two loving sisters, Bernadette (Aaron) Hudson, Eleanor Reese Stallworth both from Mobile, AL., one sister-in-law, Shelia Bassett of Brooklyn, New York. Nephews and Nieces – Aaron Hudson, Jr., Adrienne Hudson, Lamont (Sabrina) Bassett, Linora Reese, Vincent (LaKesha) Reese, LaShunda (Timothy) Foster all of Mobile, AL; Marilyn (Owen) Bassett-Joseph, Kalendy (Bing) Bassett-Chiu, Cyrial Anthony Bassett, III, all of Brooklyn, New York. Seventeen great nephews and nieces.

He also leaves to cherish his precious memories eight loving aunts; Geneva Fleeton, Mobile, AL; Alberta Ridgeway, Hattie Ridgeway, Irmatine Marshall, all of Brooklyn, NY; Barbara Ridgeway, New York, NY; Leverta Ridgeway, Birmingham, AL; Dietrea Bowers and Donna Section of Houston, TX; two uncles, Darryl (Angel) Bassett and Robert (Shirley) Howze, of Mobile, AL; devoted cousins (loved like aunts & uncles) Iola Bradberry, Dannye Donald, Bernice Gains, Charlie Ridgeway, Jr., Lee Davis Ridgeway, Rufus Nichols, of Chicago, IL; Marilyn Davis, of Little Elm, TX; Normie Ruth (Richard) Tartt, of Silas, AL; A host of cousins, other relatives and friends, one devoted, Robin Visel & family.

A multitude of Christian Brothers and Sisters throughout the city. We all will greatly miss Joseph (Tony).
