Obituary for Josephine McDuffie Walker

Josephine McDuffie, a native of Coy (Wilcox County), AL and a lifelong resident of Mobile, AL, entered her eternal life on Tuesday, May 2, 2023.

At an early age, she confessed to Christ under the leadership of Rev. W.G. Lett and became a member of Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church in Coy, Alabama. She was a graduate of Camden Academy in Camden, Alabama. After graduating from high school, she moved from Coy, AL to Mobile, AL to begin her adult life.

After moving to Mobile, Josephine furthered her education, at then known as Bishop State Junior College, completing her associate’s degree in Business. Josephine would eventually land at the Mobile Press-Register, where she was an employee, for over 35 years, until her retirement in 2008.

While sitting at the bus stop, on her way to the Press-Register, she would meet Rowelland F. Walker Sr. A friendship slowly developed and eventually they were married. They would enjoy traveling until his demise in 1999.

Josephine McDuffie Walker was preceded in death by her husband Rowelland Walker, Sr.; parents Henry and Neila McDuffie; sister Earlie Mae McDuffie; brother Hayward McDuffie and nephews Infant Irial Sigler and Arnold Sigler.

She leaves to cherish her memory: Sisters, Annie Mary Jones of Axis, AL, Mary Ann McDuffie and Earlean McDuffie Sigler of Mobile, AL; Brothers Ernest McDuffie, Henry “Clarence” (Diane) McDuffie and Jimmie (Loree) McDuffie all of Mobile, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
