Obituary for Kitty Jones Yates

Kitty Lois Jones Yates was born on December 26, 1937, to the late Annie Lois Kennedy and Hilmor
Moore. She was a passionate and loving woman who enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends.
Kitty was a devoted woman of God and spent over 40 years serving as a Sunday school teacher at St.
Joseph M.B. Church and over 35 years of service as a Trustee. Outside of the church, Kitty spent 23 years
serving as an unemployment appeals judge for the State of Alabama before her retirement. She was
known for her outspokenness, gift of storytelling, and her intelligence.
She is survived by her two children, son Michael (Brenda) Tolliver of Los Angeles, CA, and daughter
Cheryl Tolliver Holifield of Mobile, AL; four grandchildren, Daz’sa and Sahara Tolliver of Los Angeles, CA,
Maurice Williams of Atlanta, GA, and Shardae Williams of Houston, TX; six siblings and a host of great
grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Kitty was preceded in death by her beloved stepfather Kapell Kennedy and brother George “Sonny”
Parker.
