LaVoyd Lucas was born April 15, 1949 to the late David and Virginia Lucas in Dallas County, Alabama. He was a resident of Mobile, AL for 64 years. He was the first of six children and was a 1967 graduate of Trinity Gardens High School in Mobile, AL. He confessed Christ later in life and was married to Daphne McCall Lucas for 49 years.
He was a member of Mount Hebron Church Ministries for 35 years, where he formerly served as Chairman of the Trustee Board and most recently served as the teacher of the Senior Adult Sunday School class. He retired from Rolls Royce Naval Marine (Pascagoula, MS) in 2010 after 25 years of employment. He was an avid fisherman, gardener & crocheter. He was a voracious reader and loved to share (teach) what he experienced & learned with others. He was friend to many and a stranger to none. He was the embodiment of Matthew 22:39, ‘Love thy neighbor as thyself’.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories a wife of 49 years, Daphne McCall Lucas, one daughter Erika (Antonio) Lucas-Goodwin of Theodore, AL; two sons, Eric (Rachel) Lucas of Temple, TX, and Roderick (Cleoka) Lucas of Charlotte, NC; one Godson, Nicholas Ramsey of Mobile, AL; two brothers, Vertis Lucas of Mobile, AL and Marvin Lucas of Tuscaloosa, AL; three sisters, Shara (Cleon) Gulley, Lesia Jones of Mobile, AL and Vionne Williams of Lawrenceville, GA; one uncle, Ulysses (Shirley) Tabb of Clarksville, TN; sisters in love; Lizzie Jessie, Mary Curry, Barbara Pace (deceased), and Edith McCall; brothers in love; Edd McCall Jr. and Derrick McCall; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
