Obituary for Leila Mae Dixon (Griffin)

On April 20, 1943, in Dallas County, Alabama, the Lord blessed the union of the late Mr. Lin Griffin and Ms. LeeAnna Blake with a beautiful baby girl. They named her Leila Mae Griffin. On Friday, September 16, 2022, as a part of God’s plan Mrs. Dixon departed this life.

Mrs. Dixon was a 1961 high school graduate of The Rosa A. Lott School. After high school graduation she attended Alabama State University upon receiving and accepting a vocalist scholarship.

She was employed by Searcy Hospital where she diligently worked thirty-eight years before retiring.

Upon joining Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church, Mt. Vernon, Alabama, Mrs. Dixon sang in the Carson Choir under the leadership of Pastor Floretta Carson at that time. Throughout the years, she faithfully served in several other capacities including being an avid choir member and a member of the deaconess board.

Mrs. Dixon was preceded in death by her father, Mr. Lin Griffin, mother, Mrs. LeeAnna Lang, grandson, Rodney Patrick, Jr., and great-granddaughter Jadelynn Greene.

Her memories will forever by cherished by her husband of over thirty-five years, Deacon James E. Dixon, Mobile, Al; loving and devoted children, three daughters and two sons, Sheila (Reverend James) Greene, Sr., Bay Minette, AL, Rodney (Bridgette) Patrick, Mobile, AL, Phyllis (Bishop Lamar) King, Axis, AL, Deidra Ware, Clarksville, TN, and Raphael (Marshalette) Patrick, Mt. Vernon, AL; fifteen beautiful grandchildren, Lartangila Greene, James (Whittney) Green, Jr., Lamar King II, Jamal (Racheal) Greene, Rodney Patrick III, Lamarcus King, Kaitlyn Ware, Dewayne Flott, Jr., Morris Altice, Rodsalyn Patrick, Lamiyah King, Allen Ware, Jr., Amiya Patrick, Jameila Greene and Josh Patrick; eleven great grandchildren, Angelyah, Ja’Nyia, Jai’Ree, Jayse, Ashton, Jayselynn, Layla, Malik, Sariyah, Jalarryah and Raelynn; two bonus children, Rick Jackson, Demopolis, AL and Erica Cowan, Thomasville, AL; one sister in law, Christine Dickinson, Sweetwater, AL, three brothers in law, Oscar (Shirley) Dixon, Jr., Detroit, MI, Alvin Dixon, Sweetwater, AL and Percy Dixon, Sweetwater, AL: eleven step sisters and brothers, Lillie (Jimmy) Reed, JoAnn Adams, Sheila (Lucian) Clark, Penny (William) Gaston, Andy (Ethel) Lang, Aaron Lang, Anthony (Catherine) Lang, Sherry Lang, Glynda Lang, Castaror Bell and Alex Lang; and a host of other relatives and friends.
