Obituary for Overseer Leo Fox

Overseer Leo Fox was born July 14, 1941, native of Mobile, AL. He departed this life Mon. Dec. 26, 2022 at a local hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents Elder Kathleen Ray and Walter Gaines, daughter, Shaunta Fox, and brother, Butch Gaines.

He is survived by a devoted wife of 58 years, Elder Joyce Fox; son: Levernon Fox of Kentucky; daughters: Edith (Elder Joe) Edwards of Daphne, AL, Kathy (Cedric) Williams of Kentucky, Karen Fox of Houston, TX, Vanese (Matthew) Pitts of Birmingham, AL, Asia Fox of Mobile, AL. He has 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; a host of cousins and family members; special friends: Bishop Richard Curtis, Deacon Otis Sumlin of Cordova, TN, Deacon O T Anderson, Deacon Clifford Williams, Patrick Lawson, and Jeriel Daily.

Overseer Leo Fox became a member of the Adam St. Holiness Church of God in 1949 at a very early age. He was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and received the Holy Ghost in 1977, under the leadership of Bishop James Finley at Phillips Temple A.O.H. Church of God. Overseer Fox was graduate of Central High School of the class of 1960. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Civil Corps in 1961, until being honorably discharged in 1964. He was a merchant seaman, chemical operator, and employed at CSX Railroad Company as a payroll clerk until he retired.

Overseer Fox was the pastor of the New Orleans A.O.H. Church of God for four years, Mt. Vernon A.O.H. Church of God for 14 years; and St. John A.O.H. for 21 years until his passing. Overseer Leo Fox was on the Board of Directors at the Community Action in Prichard, AL, and the James T. Strickland Youth Center. He was involved in prison ministry and a member of the American Center for Law & Justice based in Washington, D.C. Overseer Leo Fox was the director of Fox Economic Educational Development.

He will Lie in State Fri. Jan. 6, 2023 from 4-8pm at Small’s Mortuary. Visitation will take place Sat. Jan. 7, 2023 from 9am until the 11am service at Phillip’s Temple AOH Church of God, 2257 St. Stephens Rd., Mobile, AL 36617. Interment will follow in Pine Crest West Cemetery.
